flUrate Lithiasis"
Prague,, Cas pia'Lekaru-Caskyeh Vol 1050 No 32,, 15 Aug 66v pp 856-860
Abstract ZAuthors' English summary modified7t Lithiasis may be caused-by
increase in the secretion of urinax7 acid through the urine; when this
secretion is normalp the disease is due to the decreased ability of the
renal tubule to produce ammonia# which affects the low'pH of the urine.
In both cases urate 3ithiasis Is promoted by the low solubility of the
urinary acid in an acid medium* The most important hormone for patients
-with uricosynthesis with lithiasis of the urates and in hyperurikemia is
a fraction of neutral 17-ketooteroids, particularly dehydroopiandrosterone

"Clinical Pathology of the Necrotic Inflammation of Kidney Pelvis
Leukoplakia,"
Budapest, Magyar Sebeszeto Vol XVI, No 2, May .1963, pages 123-129.
Abstracts [Authors' German summary] The cases presented are of clW-
cal and literary significance. In the first of the cases, the kidney
was retained during the first operation since it showed no significant
changes. The mucosa of the pyeliui showed macroscopic evidence of a
chronic inflammation without in indication of leukoplakia. Therefore,
only the tissue mass was reiioved and the kidney retained. During the
second operation, the changes characteristic of chronic pyelonephritis
were evident. Because of the advanced macroscopic picture of leuko-
plakia. of the pyelum, removal of the kidney was Indicated. The second
case, presenting a similar picture, was solved by nephrectomy. 3 West

Abstract z The author points out the present incorrect method of

TITLE: Karat Phenomena in.the South Primorlye

(USSR);
ABSTRAM At.the beginningt ~-the authors giva a list of publications on
karat phenomena in the Primorlys (Pacific Coastal Area) which
have been known there for 50 yeara (Ve Ko Arsenlyevp Ref 1;

When the second author had detectod bauxites which were conns.0ted:
with old karat, greater attention was paid to the latter.,Ths-
present paper gives,& more.perfec-1. characteristic of these
phenomena in the Chernigovka and Spasek Rayono Among -the 4

diluvial.deposits (Fig 1). Figure 2.shows a karat funneL
Pigure 3 illustrates the inorustaition of a lime brecoia with
cecondary calcite. The bauxite breooia is to be found in caves
(up to 25 m in sise) of the paloo-karst, in their upper part.
It is a very solid dark-groon# brownish-shaded rook with

composition.with an A120 3-content up to 39%. The depth reached
by karat ph6nomena'exoeeds considerably the recent ground-water
level. This gives evidence of tho old age of the karat formation$
At present# the age of,the karat can be hardly determined in
each individual section. The beginning of karat formation might-
be apsumed for the Salairskaya folding phase. The conclusion
of karat formation is even more difficult to be determined.
It can only be asserted that the karat formation was.conoluded
in the"beginning Upper Paleozoio. The palso-karsto on its part#
ia*not of the same age. A recent stage of karat formation

lasting now. The clarification ol the karat age is important
for the clarification of the depandenoe of bauxite formation
on a certain stage so that prospacting can be directekto the
proper way. There are 3 figures and 4 Soviet references.

TITLEs Investigation of the change in the length of diffusion dis-
placement of the carriers and the electrode potential of
germanium during electrolytic treatment
PERIODICALs- Fizika tverdogo telap v, 3f no* 51 1961, 1553-1556
TEXTt The authors studied the change in diffusion displacement of the
carriers and the electrode poiential.of germanium on anodic and cathodic
polarization in various, eleotrolytes. The.samples were treated with an
CP-4 (8R-4) etching agent and with H202. The experimental setup is shown
in Fig. 1. The diffusion length of the.carriers was measured by alight
probe on the outer side of. the sample. The samples us6d (thickness 'i a
few tenths of a millimeter) were n-typs and p-type germanium foils with a
resistivity of 10 ohm.om. Their.(III) planes were exposod to the respec-
tive electrolytes (aqueous solutions of NaOH, KOH, NaClj KClg Na 2 CO3 and
HC1). Figs. 2 and 3 show the dependence of the electrode potential

on the current flowing through the-electrolyte for n-type and p-type
germaniumf respeotively9for the case of an XaOH molar solution*2 The
sharp rise of the electrode votential in n-type Go from 10 ma/cm onward
is due to the fact that the kinetics of the anodic dissolution of ger-
manium in limited by the diffusion iof holes to the surface. In this range
of currents, the electrochemical oxidation of the germanium surface plays
a significant role. Since a change In diffusion length was observed in
the case of alkaline electrolytes only, the authors conclude that the
formation of a potential barrier at the -oundary between germanium and
electrolyte is related to,the speoifio:oharaoter of-the action of the
OH ions upon the surfaos of ormanium. The authors thank Academician
A. A.'Lebedev and Professor P' L, JUyuller for their interest in this study.
