Director of Training
Request for Installation of VM/CMS Ports
1. In February 1977, the Information Science Training
Branch acquired two new vaulted classrooms (606 and 636) in
the Chamber of Commerce Building. These rooms are currently
being converted from offices to classrooms. It is antici-
pated that the conversion and furniture acquisition will
both be complete by July 1, 1977. It is ISTB's intention to
configure each classroom with 15 computer terminals and 20
ports for computer terminals.
2. ISTB has 15 TTY MOD 40 terminals on order. Thirteen
of the terminals are to be delivered by July 1, 1977, and
the others are to be delivered in September 1977. Six DELTA
DATA terminals have been requested by ISTB for delivery in
FY 78 and additional terminals in FY 79, The 15 TTY MOD 40
terminals will be placed in one classroom. While waiting
for delivery of the DELTA DATA terminals, we intend to use
TTY MOD 37 terminals and TEXAS Instrument Silent 700 terminals
that are owned by ISTB in the second classroom.
3. ISTB has two special requirements for its terminal
classrooms. First, while each clauroom will have 15 termi-
nals we would like 20 terminal ports in each classroom. By
doing this, if one class is significantly larger than another
class that is running simultaneously, terminals could be
moved from one classroom to the other. Second, ISTB cur-
rently makes use of four computer systems (CIA's VM, DIAOLS,
GE time-sharing, and NCSS time-sharing), and it is anticipated
that additional computer systems will be used in the near
future. We have sent a memorandum to ODP requesting a
switching device to connect any terminal in ISTB to any
computer system that we use. Different computer systems
require transmission rates from 110 to 2400 Baud.

SUBJECT: Request for Installation of VM/CMS Ports
4. A 1.5 Mega Baud leased line currently connects the
Chamber of Commerce Building to Headquarters. Additional
crypto equipment and multiplexor capability is scheduled for
installation in April 1977. This additional capability
should support our communication requirement through FY 77.
5. Request the: a) installation of 20 computer
terminal ports in Room 606, Chamber of Commerce; b) instal-
lation of 20 terminal ports in Room 636, Chamber of Commerce;
c) installation of six terminal ports in Room 603, Chamber
of Commerce; and d) relocation of four terminal ports and
one Hetra port from Room 601 to Room 603, Chamber of Commerce.
Request that this installation be complete on or before
1 July 1977. Power lines and an additional power panel is
required in addition to the communication lines.
6. The red marks on the attached floor plan show the
preferred location for the terminals. The ISTB Fan Number
is 75-4100. All terminals require interface with ODP/non-
ODP/non-Agency CPUs. Terminals in Room 606 require APL and
GIMS access. All terminals will be located in vaults in the
Chamber of Commerce. Data from DIAOLS may be TS codeword.
There are no cover considerations.
7. These terminals are required for use by the
Information Science Training Branch, Functional Training
Division, Office of Training, to access and utilize VM/CMS
programs already in use and to input data into programs in
support of training and administrative activities of the
Information Science Training Branch. The Information Science
Training Branch is already the major user of the VM system
in the Office of Training.
