peat fulvo acids (FA) on Fe(3+) ions an a function of~
time, pff, FA concentration, and temperature. It ans
been found that when the pH of the FA solution is
changed, the concentrat4 on of the unieduced Fe(3+)
increases with the concentrntion of HCI, attaining
a maximum in a I N solution: manxinum Fe(2+) ion con-
centrations are observed in 0.1-0.2 N (Hr,173 solutions.

Abstract: The isotherms of C02 adsorption on activated carbon at 2D to 600
were taken down by the earlier described (RZh-Khim) 1955s 51625)
dynamic gae-chromatographic method. The conparison of the iso-
therms obtained by this method with data obtained by the volu-
metric method shows that the results are practically identic, if
physical adsorption was in question and o-hronatogmphy was carried

The method of Investigation is described. Deviating from Nelson's technique a Bud-
dapest spirochaeW strain was used. The antibody formation in rabbits was Inhib-

tied by the administration of basethyrin. Afore than 611 tests are repurted. The
reaction yields reliable, unequivocal results and can "Ie easily reproduced. Tile
proportion of surviving apirochaetes In negative sera was 21 & 2. 90',"~ of the re-

caocs. On repetition it was Impossible to reproduce tile results in only 7% of the
tests. In quantitative investigations the variations in tit:-e were 30-40,10. Of the go-
called lipoidal reactions AIKII 11 showed the beat agreimient with the TIT. Tile
most aspecific reaults were shown by the Kahn reactionp.5%). lite least by the
Wasserinann reaction (3.976). The TIT was negative ir. 5, of cases where there was
complete serum positivity, and in 2416 where there was discrepancy. In untreated
syphilis TIT is appreciably more sensitive than the classical serum reactions; It
gave an indefinite result in only I case. In treated syphilis (128 cases) it became
negative later than the classical scruin reactions. in early syphilis it gave a nega-
tive result in 5916 of the cases, and In late syphilis in 181% of the cases. while the
classical serum reactions were negative at the same time In 63010 and 23% of the
cases. After adequate treatment and in the absence of clinical symptoms syphilis
should probably be regarded aB cured In spite of a positive TIT. The references
in the literature to the specificity of the TIT, the rela ion between the immobili-
sine and the reagine, as well am the role of the immobillsine in syphilitic immuni-
ty are discussed. (IV, 13)

Serum and CSF of 402 patients with syphilis or with the clinical or serological
suspicion of syphilis were tested by classical serological reactions and Treponema
pallidurn Immobilization test (TPIT). The patients were classified as: 41 no 'T
phills. 243 !&tent syphilis (109 untreated). 100 neurosyphilis (47 untreated). I
cured syphilis. The clinical diagnomis, TPIT and classical reactions in the CFF of
the untreated ritients an a rule gave conforming results. In 5.9% of the cases of
latent syphilis TPIT was positive in the CSF with no other clinical dymploms or
CSF alterations. In 19.1% of the untreated neurosyphilitic patients the TPIT and
the classical reactions in the CSF were negative. In these cases there was no
clinical sign proving the progression of the disease. The TPIT Ln the CSF was
more sonsitive than the classical reactiond: in treated cascs of neurosyphills Its
negativation occurred later. If the TPIT In the serurn Is negative. one cannot find
immobillain In the CSF. In a clinically verified came of biolo I ally aspecific

Abstract: (English article] The lipid composition of Treponema pallidu T.
reitert, T. kazani-5, T. minutu , and T. reiringentis has been investigated
by thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography by employing the test techniques
described by VACZIp L., MAKLEIT, J. K.p RETHY, A., and REDAI, I., Ibid., Vol
11, 1964-1965, p 384. The fatty-acid complement, similar in all strains, con-
sisted mainly of palmitic) olcic) and oleinic acid. The phospholipid comp-
lement varied considerably between strains. The unsaturated fatty acid com-
position of the Treponema was very similar to that of Streptococci. The signi-
ficance of the lipid component in cell metabolism was discussed. The results
were presented. 8 references, including 1 Hungarian, 2 German, and 5 Western.

the thrombocytopenia test, as described by Storck-Hoign6, have been in-
vestigated by the authors on rabbits, guinea pigs and rats. The results
provide orientation as to the sensitivity and specificity of the reaction
among various species of animals. The results indicate thit this reaction
is more suitable for following the development of hypersensitivity In
