The state of the valence electrons par- ticipating in bonds in binary compounds can be approximately characterized by a mean quintum number, but it must be kept in mind that the atoms are not equivalent In the foi@mation of the energetic structure of the conpound; the field of the anion plays a major part, since in chemical compounds of atons with different olnetron affinities there is always an asymmetry of the electron donsity.
