'v of the teaching staff of the Polytechnic Institute of the Urals was studied, principally with regard to loss of working ability due to cardiovascular disorders. The observations were carried out on some 1000 persons during 1953- 1955. The cardiovascuiar disorders were resDonsible for 36.31, of the total loss of working days in 1053, 24,o in 1954 and 195~, and figured as the first cause of temporary disability; the second cause was influenza and acute infections of the upper respiratory tract (14.6~o in 1954, in 1955). Professors and Assistant Professors formed 457o of the persons disabled by cardiovascular disorder, al- though their total number was less than 301jo of the teaching staff. 68% in 1953 and 53% in 1955 of the cardiovascular diseases were classified as hypertensive and coronary. Less frequent were other myocardial diseases, sclerosis of aorta and of its branches, cardiovascular neuroses etc. Vavilin - Moscow XAZAKOV, M.B.,glavnyy vrach.; BARATS, S.S.,kandidat meditsinskikh nauk. .- Activities of a clinical center for athletes; data on the Sverdlovsk Municipal Center of Therapy and Physical Education. Essentially, the processor comprises a clock-pulse generator, a ring counter, a decoder, a logical circuit, and pulse shapers and amplifiers. Both electron tubes and semi- conductor devices were used in an experimental model. A block diagram for connecting the processor to external circuits and a time-sequence diagram of its operation are supplied. Orig. art. has: 2 figures. R.__ ORG: Ural Polytechnic Institute (Ural'skiy politekhnicheskiy institut) TITLE: Effect of mang nese and silicon on the transformation of supercooled austenite, in cobalt steel X SOURCE: IVUZ. Chernaya metallurgiya, no. 4, 1966, 128-132 TOPIC TAGS: cobalt steel, alloy steel, manganese, austenite transformation, tempera- ture dependence, metallographic examination, metal hardening hBSTRACT: The effects of manganese and silicon additions on the transformation charac~ teristics of cobalt steel were studied. A 0.7% carbon steel was alloyed with Co, Co and Si, or Co and Mn; in all, 9 alloys were tested. Isothermal transformation curves are given for each steel. The steels were austenitized at 9000C for 3 min. Cobalt with or without other alloying elem ents decreased the stability of austenite in all sub~- critical temperature intervals. Intermediate transformations occurred in all steels. Cobalt promoted the formation of a thin ferrite-carbide mixture with a high degree of j hardness. Depending on the austenitic transformation temperature in the subcritical region, different methods could be developed for forming a definite type of structure shaving particular properties: a) sorbite at transformation temperatures of 550-650OC;,- UDC: 669.15-194:669.25:620.181 Card 1/2 i ACC NR, AP6023046 b) a mixturp of trootsite and bainite at 1150-500'C; and c) bainite at temperatures be- low 4000C.''Microstructures of each of the above transformation products were shown. The hardnesses of transformation products formed at 400-6000C are given for 6 of the steels. The hardness change as a function of transformation time went through a maxi-1, mum at 0.5 min for transformation temperatures of 1100, 1150 and 5000C. ThIs was ex- i plained by the diffusion decomposition of si-koersaturated ferrite; the decomposed car- ! hon entered the untransformed austenite which gave off carbides. This also accounted i for the lower hardness of martensite formed during subsequent quenching. Orig. art. has: 3 figures, 2 tables.
