ABSTRACT; Since practically no Yugoslav foundry has at its
disposal raw material with a low enouea sulfur
content for the production of grey cast iron with a
permissible sulfur content of 0.1%v zhe Yugoslav
metallurgical industry has to resort to desulfuri-
zation. Tests with desulfurization by a fluidized
desulfurizing agent have been carried out by the
authors. For the tests a 100-kg sample of standard

instruments and el bottles containing compressed
nitrogen and ammonium. The desulfurizing agents
used were either raw calcium oxide or serpentine
preyiously heated for 3 bra at a temperature of
900'C. Air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen end ammonium
-mere used for the carrier gas, but the first two
were found unsuitable due to their high moisture
content. The results of the tests are tabulated.
Best results were obtained by using 1.5% of CaO
by which 58.3% of the sulfur content was removed
and by using 1% serpentine by which process 54.5%
of the sulfur content was removed. The practical
efperien(:e gained from the tests showed, that

TITLE: onomy of Using the Monophase Industrial Fre-
quency System in Electric Traction
PERIODICAL: Tehnika, 1959, Nr 1, pp 141-145 (YUI;)
ABSTRACT: This report was presented at the Savetovanje o izboru
sistema elektridne vu6e (Conference on the Selection
of Electric Traction Systems) on 20 October lq57 in
Beograd. In May 19,1-4 it was decided to continue the
eleetrifleation of Yugoslav rai2veys by using a 3,000-v
d.c. sys-;em. The author advocates the use of the a.c.
50-cycle system and points to France and. the USSR as
pioneers of this system. Experiments with the mono-
phase 50-cycle system for electric traction were
carried out in the USSR in 1934 on the initiative of
"Dinamoll Electrical Engineering Institute. The elec-
trification of Yugoslav RR would have to rely mainly

on the experience and results gained in this field
by France and the USSR. In estimating the suitabi-
lity of the 50-cYcle system for Yugoslavia, three
factors have to be given special consideration: ten-
dency to greater speed, increase in freight transport
and the economic advantages of this system. Yugos-
lav conditions could satisfy the first-two factors.
Defending the economical advantages of this system
the author quotes some data from the USSR publication
"New Types of Traction in Transport" published in 1956
by the USSR Academy of Science, Institute for Complex
Trarsport Problems, and from the periodical "Blektri-
cheskaya i teplovoznaya tyaga", 1957, Hr 1. These data
refer to trial runs on the 136-km RR line Ozherell-
Povelets, with a 22-kv contact grid fed by the sta-
tions in Ozherell, Vilenka and Mshanka. The

experiments on this line started in 1956 but already
before the war some tests were carried out with a
OP 22 trial locomotive, capacity 2,040 kw, 50-cycles
and 22 kv. The USSR tests proved the undisputable
good qualities of this system. The author states
that steam locomotives in Yugoslavia are being re-
placed with diesel-engines as the first step towards
complete electrification. Diesel locomotives could
be used eventually also for the 50-cycle system by
replacing the diesel-units with electrical equipment.
The feedinS and contact grid does not represent any
difficulties since a current UP to 35 kv can be used.
Only 171.5 km of Yugoslav RR have been electrified.
Me increase in industrial and agricultural produc-
tion calls for an increase in the speed of RR trans-
port and expansion of RR lines, both of which can be

TITLE: Application of the Theory of Thin Rod* to theDesign Calcula-
tion of Axial-radial Turbine Rotors (Primene~hiye teorii zonkikh
sterzhney k raschetu rabochego Itolesa radiaPnoosevoy turbiny)
PERIODICAL- V sb.- Cidraturbostroyeniye. Vol 4. Moscow- Leningrad.
Mashgiz, 1957, pp 18Z-194
ABSTRACT: The author proposes a method of calculat.(sn for determin-
ing the stress conditions of a blade of axial-rikdial turbine
rotor under hydrodynamic pressure according to the theory of
thin rods. The axis of the rod is divided into,,two sections: a
straight line and an arc of circumference. T~m moment* of
inertia of the cross sections and the angle ofiNatural twist are
assumed to be constant. The top end of the hf.ade is considered
to be fixed rigidly to the outer rim while the Iower end of the
blade, although fixed to the inner rim, can follow its displace-
ments.
