Two seismic pro- files were run, totalling 140 to 150 km. The KMPV method was mostly used, although Isome.work wa s done by the MOV and even RNP methods. The profiling was continuous when, using the MPV method. The wave reflected from the basement top was traced through the entire lengths of the profiles, since this basement was the main object of investiga- tion. It was recorded as first "kicks" at distances of 9 to 35 km from the primary wave. Its apparent velocity varied between 5800 and 6300 m/sec. Its coefficient of I ampening was 1.7-10 d -5 1/H. The superimposing traces lacked a parallelism. This wavel Iwas identical with the refracted'one. In the western part of the area, some reflec- UDC; 550.834 Card 1/2 ACC NRt 6022473 Itions were obtained from caps of salt domes as well as from the underlying salt-bear- ing basement &-ops, 2700-3000 m down to 4500 m from west to cenier. The second pro- file shows the basement's drop from 4500 down to 8500 m over a distance of 30 to 40 km between the borehole No. 1 at Verkhovo on the north and Tormosino on the south. A map lof the Precambrian basement was prepared as the result of this work. Recommendations are offered for further.investigations. G. Shekhtman. During the recent years, the productivity- of the local turkeys has increased oonsiderablyt average number of eggs layed yearly from 15-25 to 56 eggs; the average weight of the young ones, from 4 to 4.4 kg (2900 young females). The increase in the productivity of tur- keys occurred mainly due to a more rational feeding. Only females laying not less than 51 eggs are used for breeding, and only the little turkeys from females of live weight not less than 4.1 kg, which layed up to May 1,not less than 21 eggs. TITLEs Anisotropy of Mechanical Properties of Welds in Thiak Plates Welded with Austenitic Electrodes PERIODICALs Avtomaticheskaya svarkat 1960, No. 9, PP- 43-47 TEXTa The purpose of the described investigation was to determine the mechanical properties of butt welds in 50 mm. steel sheets made with austs- nitio eleetrodes from C 6422M5 (Sv-Kh22NI5) vire and a varying aro length, and to use the data for welding with other austenite class electrodes as wall. The base metal was chrome-nickel-molybdenum steel plate with edges bevelled with 600V. The high tendency of nichrome alloys to transorystalli- zation resulted in a clearly columnar weld metal structure despite the high number of weld layers (Fig. 2). This structure is the cause of the anisc- tropy of the mechanical properties across the depth and the three axes ' shown (Fig. 3). Higher strength in the bottom weld portion appears to be due to a higher content of base metal. Tensile strength is at the lowest Card 1/3 S/125J60/000/009/007/017 A16!/AI30 Anisotropy of Mechanical Properties of Welds in Thiok Plates Welded with Austenitia Electrodes along the Oy axis (Fig- 3) in the top portiong along the Oz axis it Is the average between the strength values in the Ox and Oy direction. Elongation along Oy is considerably lower than along Ox and Oy. The longer are oon- siderably increased the anisotropy and drastically reduced the plasticity along Oy, lowered the strength and elongation in the top weld portion com- pared with the bottom, gave higher accumulation of non-metailic inclusions in the top are than in the short are, and lowered the strength in the fusion boundary between the bass and weld metal. It is concluded that the long arc must not be used for welding with austenitic electrodes. There are 5 figures and 4 references of which 3 are Soviet and 1 English. Mosk. geol-razved. in-ta, Vol 29, pp 52-56- IqJZ, ABSTRACT: Several small masses of ~~.;,,azonite granites are known in the eastern trans-Baikal regioll. They are associated with specific rare-metal m4neralization. L A mass, forming a steeply dipping dike-like body (400 to 500) was studied. The amazonite -ranites consist of microcline-amazonite (36 jereent, oc- curring in grains of irregular outlines and Card 1/3 replaced by quartz), quar-tz M percents, albite The Ortgln of' Arriazonite Granites (Cont'. 15-57-5-6112 (Ab94-95, 30 to 40 percent), and also zinriwald'te, topaz, and accessory minerals: cassiterite, fluorite, ~illcon, wolframite, and others. Topaz is encountered in the rocIr: in large irregular segregations, replacing and cementing albite and microcline. The mineral also occurs as a fine-grained variety fillin g 4 , ~nterspaceq between other minerals and fractures in them, Zirinwaldite is found with topaz in indistinct relationship. its optical roper- - 2V- 2 9 ties are Ng = 1.566 t 0.002j NT) = 1-540 1 (),G02$ 5 , and it is weakly pleochroic. Recaiculation of the chemical analyses of the amazonite granites according to the method of A~ N1. Zava- ritskiy indicates that the rocks belong to strongly alkalic types, oversaturated in Si02 and A120A. The extreme Similarity in a number of characteristics of t e amazonite granites with the characteristics of some muscovite granites that have been formed by autometasomatic transformation of biotite granites and the presence of large quantities of topaz and zinn,,%raldite-in the ama-- zonite granites, and also the presence of cas~Atkerite, wolframite, Card 2/3 The Origin of Amazonite Granites (Cont.) 15-57-5-6112 and other minerals that contain rare and dissaminaLed elements lead the authors to suggest that the amazon r,ranites were formed by crystallization of a magma approximateiy riiQ coitiposition of pegmatite and derived from, the dif f erentia Lion olC co,-nr,,o,-,. biotite- granite magma. Rapid crystallization of tiie at low temper- atures and pressures was responsible for the absence of secondary differentiation and for the elimination of con- stituents. These latter gave rise to grei6enization of the host sand-silt rocks up to the final consolidation o.L' th_- mass. Card 3/3 0. V. B. COVERAGE: The -work attempts to create a practical basis for appraising the importance of primary and secondary ore zones containing gold deposits resulting from hypergenetic migration. Minerals containing native gold in macroscopic, microscopic, and submicroscopic quan- tities, as well as the regions in which these minerals occurlare indicated. The authors cite references to studies made on the genesis of hypogene and supergene gold. The Maykain and Dzhusaly deposits of Kazakhstan and the Blyava and Novyy Sibay deposits of the Southern Urals are analyzed geologically and mineralogically and the results presented in tables and graphs. Resulta of microscopic analysis of gold are also discussed and illustrated. This work has been completed under the direction of V.M. Kreyter who wrote Chapters 1, V, and VI. Chapter Ill and the first and second parts of the Chapter II were written by V. V. Aristov. Chapter VII and the third part of-.* the Chapter H were written by I.S. Volynskiy. V.V.
