ABSTRACT: The authoi- investigated the reaction of methyllactolides of three aryl- alkylketoalcohols - ethylbenzoylearbinol (R=C2H ; RI = H), propyl- benzoy1carbinol (R . C~H7; R' a H) and dJ-methylgenzoylcarbinol (R a RI CH ) with phenols. In all cases methylnhenylketals homologous to these ke?oalcohols were obtained. Identical ketals ifere obtained during the reaction of sodium phenolate with alpha-bromoketones (corresponding to these ketoalcohols) in a solution of methyl alcohol. M*.,thylphenylketals hydrolyze easily when heated to 400 with a water-alcohol solution of 5% H2SO4,resulting in the formation of methyl alcohol, phenol and homo- logous alpha-ketoalcohol. The opening of the oxide cycle by the methoxv-groups takes place regardless of the length and branching of the Card 1/2 alkyl ;hain. Three ferromolybdates were produced: 1) oL-phase: (FeMoO 4) 2~ A-phases Fe2MOO 3 r-phaset Fe2(Mot vi The oL-phase is obta nh by sintering FeO and MoO 3 in a vacuum and inargon-atmo sphere at 7000C. This phase is isomorphic with NiMoO V A radiogram of FeMo04 was also carried out. The (~-phase is obtained by sintering . FeO and M'o02 in the ratio 2:1 in argon atmosphere at 3500C. This phase is ferromagnetio. The Pphase is produced by sintering of Fe203 and M003 in Card 1/2 air at a temperature above 7000C. This phase has, its On Perroinolybdates AVAILABLE: Card 2/2 78-3-5-37/39 melting-point at 940OC- The ok-- and A-phase oxidize in air at higher ten.-e-ratures by forming Fe20 3 and MoO3. The oc-phase alloys with cobalt and nickel, but it does not oxidize even at IOOOOC. A new pha3e )the composition of which was not determined., was radiographically found by sintering FeO and M002 at a temperature of 700 to 6000C in argon atmosphere. Data for the pL Lwrerse logs. rithm, of the solubility product of selenides and tellurides available in the literature, or computed from thermochemical data are used to explain the relation between the pL of sulfides, selenides and tellurides. The=ochemical data not found in the literature were computed by methods of approximation. TITLE: Thin-layer Helical Absorbers for Travelling Wave Tubes (Tonkoplenochny-ye spirallnyye poglotiteli dlya !,W) PERIODICAL: Radiotekhnika i elektronika, 1959, Vol 4, Nr 6, pp 988 - 994 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The stabIlisation of travelling wave tubes is done by inserting an absorbing element between the input and output. The aim of the work reported was to investigate the characteristlas of the films of various materials which were used as the absorbers in travelling wave tubes. The foilowing types of absorbers were studied: 1) narrow fine-film elements adhering directly to the helix and situated inside the tube (Figure 1)- 2) narrow f-ine-film elements adhering to the external wire helix and situated inside the vacuum bulb of the tube (Figure 2); 3) fine-filin elements which were in the form of a helix deposited on the body of the tube or a special thin-walled external tube (Figures 3). The experimental results Cardl/3 obtained with the absorbers are illustrated -Jr, Figures 4-12. I Budapest, A Mla[yar Tudomanyos Akademia V. Orvosi Tudomanyck Osztalyanak Kozlemenjei, Vol XVI, 110 L~, 1965, pages 297-309. Abstract-, (Authors' Hungarian summary) Protein deficiency anemia was de- veloped in white, male Wistar rats by usin.7 a dint which contained only half of the optimal protein amount, 18 per cent. The hemoglobin of the animals which were on this diet was considerably decreased with an average value of 3.4 g per cent. The experimental animals kept on the same diet which also received oral doses of 40-60 mg dl-a-tocopherol daily were able to maintain a normal level of Hb with an average value of 13.1 C per cent. The effect of regular daily doses of vitamin E on the Hb synthesis of animals on a lov protein diet was a pronounced one 3ince it completely in- hibited the decrease in Hb content In response to the lack of protein. It is thoueht that a disturbance in the synthesis of globin, the prosthetic group of 9h. wea 1,iv tho --4-e- HUZiGARY Budapest, A Magyar Tudomanyos Akademia V. The details of the muchanism of this action of vitamin E have not yet been elucidated; the cause should, presumably, be sought in the affect of tocophProl on the regulation of protein metabolism. 4 Hun.. garian, 23 Western references. Polychlorosilanes were shown to form infusible and insoluble products with phenolic polymers. In the reaction of resols with polychlorosilanes two processes take place: 1) formation of silicon atoms 7 Oil OH OH OH +nR2SIC1, 0 \Sla' SIR, OH OH OH -2nl1CI 0/ OH Card 1/2 ACC NR. AP7001563 !containing crosslinks: and 2) conventional curing catalyzed by hydrogen chloride liberated in the reaction. In the reaction of novolaks with polychlorosilanes only one process takes place: formation of silicon atDms containing crosslinks. The total number of silicon atoms involved in crosslinking is proportional to the number of free hydroxyl groups in the initial phenolic resin, and determines the degree of crosslinking of the organosilicon products formed. It is concluded that polychloro- silanes can be used as curing agents for phenolics. The paper was presented by Academician. S. V. Durmishidze. Orig. art. has: 2 figures and 2 tables. The main problem is whether on this or that landing point or section of the flight-line fog is forming, or whether the clouds come down to the ground. The conventional methDds of weather forecast requires too long a time (among them A. S. Zverev's graphical me-thod). For this purpose the author sug- gests a very simple diagram which permits to warn pilots against fog formation 1-3 hours in advance. For this purpose the principle of formal extrapolation of the change of the dew point and air temperature (Fig 1) is applied. Although the diagram is purely empirical it has proved to be efficient in Card 1/2 A Graphical Method of Fo-recasting Fog (Shortly Before) SOV/5,--:;r---12-1'1z;/2C a degree of Q,O % with a deviation of +30 z 45 minutes from the predicted time.
