ABSTRACTs The manufacture of a now type of unbreakable anti-glaro
eyeglasses model "Dolonit-Poloks", was started in Czeoho.
olovakia in fall 1956. They have been designed on the prin-
ciple of the polarization of light, utilizing two light
screens, The screens permit a penetration of light beams
through special slits only. The basic part of the now anti-
glare eyeglasses consists of the so-called polarization foil,
a thin brittle lamina,made from a special synthetic material.
Since the Polarization,-foil is very brittle, Czechoslovakian
chemists have suggested that it be covered with a flexible
and transparent synthetic resin (methyl metacrylate). The
setting is made of a synthetic product called dolonit.

caused by the difference between the coefficicats of
expmiaion and contraction of 0 and of the cerarAe body.
The equalization of the coefficients of expansion is
basically achieved by increasing or decreasing the
content of SiO2 in glaze at the expense of the content
of clays and by a coarser milling of G. Detailed direc-

A case Is reported showing three pterygia of v%hich two -A ere situated temporally. Zn
the lower lids protruding Melbomian concretions i4ere found opposite the temporal
ptvrygis, Irritating the conjunctiva bt the side (if temporal 14trygia during eye
movement. 117 cases ofpterylium were examined since the time and it was found that
grAnula, trichl2sts, chalasion. verruca. rough lid margin and a prominent lacrimal
punctum may be the cause of pterygium. It is suggested that pterygium occurs as a
sequel of a long-standing microtraumatization of the bulbar conjunctiva and cornea
during eye and lid movements especially in winking. Zahn Prague

Report on 4 cases with congenital coloboma of the iris and a probable choroidal
coloboma. The effect of operation was unfavourable in all cases. In 2 Instances
tumorous vascularized masses appeared in the vitreous and the clinical picture
resembled that of poeudogUoma. In the other 2 cases dense vitreous opacities and
a ruffled glial membrane formed in the vitreous. In 2 cases lose of vision and in
the other 2 only light perception without light projection resulted. The retina
forms a duplicature in the choroidal coloboma, degenerates and forms a structure-
less glial mass which may proliferate until It touches the posterior surface of the
lens causing the evolution of cataract. An unfavourable result is. therefore, liable
to occur after cataract extraction in cases with great choroidal coloboma be it
solitary or combined with coloboma of the iris. In cases of isolated iris coloboma
extraction of cataract may be performed without mishap. Zahn - Prague
