barrier. The dielectric and potential barrier temperature coefficients of USSR-
made silicon varactor diodes are cited as 2 x 10-4/*C and (3-6) x 10-3/*C, respec-
tively. The dependance of the varactor diode capacitance on the applied d-c voltage
may be utilized in d-c/a-c voltage conversion. These circuits may use the amplitude
modulating principle usually encountered in bridge or differential circuits or the
frequency modulating principle characteristic to tuned LC or RC circuits. Thirteen

TITLE: Compound Storage Hoppers With an Upper Part of Variable
Cross-section
PERIODICAL: Vestnik mashinostroyeniya, 1959, Nr 6, PP 36-38 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: Various geometries of storage hoppers are considered in
rolatton to their filling with granular material whIch
settles down at its angle of repose. When the upper part
is prismatic, a hopper suspended under a horizontal ceiling
will have some wasted space. Although this space cannot
be used, a design with varying cross-section in the shape
of a pyramid may yield a stiffer structure, prevent the
existence of voids which are unhygienic in food storage
and require loss material. An analysis of the geometric
relationships leads to a simple criterion (Eq 5) based
on the minimum amount of sheet material. For every angle
of repose there is a maximum ratio of width of the filling

Abstract The absorption was conducted in three types of apparatus
the characteristics of which are presented in a table.
The degree of absorption of nitrogen oxides increases
markedly with increase in the number of revolutions.
The calculations show a saving of 61.4% in energy when
mechanical absorption apparatus are used. Four tables

SOURCE: AN SSSH. Izveatiya. Fizika Zenli, no. lo, 1966, 9i-96
TOPIC TAGS: magnetization, earth magnetiom, magnetic property, quartz
ABSTI:UCT- Many data indicate that the na,,_7ietivation of sedimentary rocka changes
appreciably in the early stages of their hiotor-j. The authors have prepared some
mixes of quartz and magnetite of various aizea (0.00a to 0.36 mm for magnetite, 0.008
to 0.81 mm for quartz) to study such changes. The material wa.4i allowed to settle in
quiet water in the earth's field. Settling distances ranGed from 0.1 to 1 mg and
shaking of the mix ranged in duration from 0 to 40 seconds. Inclination of magnetiza-
in the sediments was found to change with time of shaking and with size of
particle. The authors conclude that external mechanical factors bring about changes
in the mutual arrangement of grains in fresh claotic gediments. As a result of these
changes, the direction of magnetization in the ruck3 approaches that of the earth's
field by the time diageneoia begins. Since the maj;nctization of fresh sediments may
be altered, a real concept of distortions in directions of magnetization in claotio

TITLE: About a Receiver with a Universal Power Supply. A Letter to the Editor
(0 priyemnike s universal'nym pitaniyem. Nam pishut)
PERIODICAL: Radio, 1957, Nr 3, p 53 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: "It is not a secret that most of the battery-type receivers in rural
areas are more often silent thar. functioning. This is due to interruptions in
the selling of batteries. They are delivered to rural areas irregularly and by
the end of their service life, furction considerably worse than in the beginning.
Receivers with universal power supply, from power-supply lines, from bat-
teries, and from storage batteries, meet with general interest. Commercial
battery-type receivers can be converted to storage-battery supply, "but to buy
a vibrapack in a store is often absolutely impossible. " Sensitivity and selec-
tivity of a universal -supply receiver should be much higher than those of
"Rodina-47" and "Rodina-52" receivers.

TEXTi The device consists of a sheet of metal freely Suspended on a shaft
which turns in bearings. Wnen the thickness of the layer of material varieup
the sheet rotates through a certain angle making the appropriate contact
in the indicatini.; circuit. In order to provide a linear dependence between
the shaft's angle of rotation and the layer thickness it is suggested that
thc 3uspended part be specially shaped (calculations of the profiie of a
qeneor with linear response are given and the results are tabulated).
Such a sensor is installed at the Semenovsko-Golovkovokayauglebriketnaya
f-ka (Semenovoko-Golovkovo Coal Briquette Factory) for measuring and con-

TITLEi High Frequency oscillations of the Voltage in Aircraft
d.c. Systems
PERIODICAL4 Vestnik elektropromyshlennosti, 1960, NoA, pp-56-59
TEXT, The aim of the work was to determine experimentally the
character of voltage changes after opening the circuit. The
investigations were carried out in the control circuit using an
aircraft type contactor and differing conductor lengths, The power
source was a 3 kW dynamo with a voltage regulator, The transienx
phenomena were recorded by means of a two-beam o8cillograph
intended for non-recurrent phenomena with scanning durationsbetween
3 jisec and 2 maec, The signal from the investigated voltage was I/
fed via a voltage divider to the deflecting plates of the oscillo-
graph, The parameters of the voltage divider were so chosen that
the investigated voltage should appear on the oscillograph screen
without amplitude or frequency distortions, Two recordinvs are
reproduced, in one(for which the scanning speed was lower) only the
high frequency oscillations appear, Fig-3., These constitute only
a part of the entire process of the voltage changes recorded in the

oscillogram, Fig.2. The type of o8cillations is influenced by the
type of contactor, the length of the conductors and the type of
network. Depending on these factors, the oscillation frequency
varied between 17 and 54 kc/s. Placing of the contactor into a
vacuum chamber did not bring about any change in the frequency of
the voltage oscillations.. Using an experimental circuit., the
diagram of which is given in Fig.5, a further series of tests were
made to determine the influence of the dynamo circuit and of the
network on the voltage oscillations (L I = L2 = Ov3 hy: CI = C2
varied between 0 and 0.05 pF), The results showed that changes in
the capacitance of the generator circuit did not influence the
frequency of the high voltage oscillations, However, the resonant
frequency of the network does affect the frequency of the voltage
oscillationsi in the given experiments these varied between 50 and
10 kc/s,, The following conclusions are arrived at,
1) High frequency oscillations occur during recovery of the voltage
o n opening contacts of d.c. aircraft networks,
2) The frequency of these voltage oscillations are determined by the
resonant frequency of the disconnected circuit (17 to 55 kc/s),

E073/E535
High Frequency Oscillations of the Voltage in Aircraft d,c, Systems
3) In designing filters for suppressing radio interference, the
resonant frequency of the switched load circuits has to be taken
into consideration.
4) With increasing resonant frequency of the load circuit, the
attenuation coefficient 6 ncreases. For control circuits withtf-le
tested contactor 6 6o-lo~ l1sec.
5) Compared to linear inductances, coils with steel cores in the
load circuits bring about an increase in the frequency of the high
frequency voltage oscillations; in the investigated cases this
increase was by a factor of three-
6) The oscillation frequency of the recovery voltage also depends on
the capacitances and inductances of the distribution network.
