For the upper and lower layer of the sample#-f* itbe polyethylene used bild a thickness of 45 microns, and for the middle 1 layer a tbickness of 65,. 17C~, 5009 750, and 1000 microns. A cylindricali opening with a diameter of 3.0 or 20 mm was made in the middle layer. 6L 46165-66 ACC NI, AP6021932 Then, the upper and lowe r polyethylene films of the sample were subjectod to an ionization process taking place in the inner opening, on the samo area for all jsmples,, determined by the diameter of the Icylindr"'cal opening in the middle layer. The volume of the artificial air inclusion was varied by changing the height of the cylinder. iDetailed experimental results are shown in graphic and tabular form. .Analysi:3 of the results; shoms that ionization processes taking place in 1 ; T linner gjas inclusions in a solid dielectric are one of the main factors determining its servico life. The service life of polyethylene films decreasas with an incrogse In the Intensity of the ionization in the gas I linclusions, but no diroct proportionality was observod, Orig, art, has: 15 figuros and 1 table. This Investigation was undertaken with the purpose of synthesizing diffe- rent polyeae acids. It 'was found that (1) reacts readily with saturated, -unsaturated, aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes giving the corresponding ethyl esters of a,p-unsaturated acids in high yields. Particularly good resul,;s were obtained with p~iiyenals, polyene acid esters being formed in yiolds Df over 8016. By hy5rolysis of these esters with sodium hydroxide in aqiieous methanol, th-3 poljene acids, up to now difficultly accessible 3ubStfLnces, were obtainid in satisfactory yields. Tvgether with this, the hy tluronidase activity of similar tissues from normal bovine tuyes was studied. The rosulM of these investigations confirm the reports of certain authors on the preser ce of hyaluronidase in the iris and ciliary body of normal bovine eye. The present author has established the fact that the iris and ciliary I*dy ot people with varic us dimeases of the eyes, without any signs of glaucoma, also possess hyaluro %idas e activity. In the presence of glaucoma, these same tiusues alther possess no Ayaluronidase activity, or this activity to consider- ably reduced.
