Translation: A study was made of the effect of alloying Li in the anioulit of 4,
8.,and 14". on the nechanical properties of Mg at test tev-peratures from -1.96 to
+300*. The increase in Li content in the alloys proL-,otes an increase in plastic-
ity by 5-10 times. The strength decreases by 2-3 times. flue increase in the
amount of beta-phase with body-centered cubic lattice Li in 11--Li alloyt; in-
creases the terinperature sensitivity of their strength characLeristics. For bi-
nary Mg-Li alloys, in contrast to pure fig, the. presence of a plasticity trou2,11
at defined test temperatures is characteristic. 'Mis indicatus the inclination
of L:iesc alloys toward erI1rittlevx-nt,catLsed probably by the presence of Na in
the alloys. Alloyinl- ;'-'g vIth lithium essentially reduces tne sensitivity of

Translation: A study was made of the variation of the structure of M.~S ond
alloy sheets after warm rolling and annealing. New da-La were obtained on the
peculiarities of recrystallizition in these alloys. It was established that in

layers, the temperature rarge of recryst-allization is shifted to lower tem-%-ra-

Translation: A study was made of the effect of structure on the mechanical prop-
erties of sheets of the new 1,11g-alloy, ITIM of the Mg-Zii-7r-Cd-La system. I t I~a 5
established that the maximum strength characteristics are, achieved in the presence
of an unrecrystallized or partially recrystallized structure and decrease step-
wise as tile degree of recrystallization and grain size increase. The optimal
annealing temperature is 250-300'C. The recrystallization diagram of the WIM'
alloy and the graph of the mechanical properties as a function of prain size
and annealing teraperature were constructed. Yhree illuszui-ations and t-WO tables.

"Kinetics and the Mechanism of Hydrolysis of Chlorophos and Some of Its
Analogs"

Abstract: The kinetics of aqueous hydrolysis of chlorophos and some of its
analogs were investigated. it was shown that the reactiou occurs in two
directions, each of which exhibits several stages. A diagram for the
Mdrolysis has been proposed. The overall constant of hydrolysis and the
constants of the reaction rates in both directions have been evaluated. It
has been shown that changes in the molecular structure [lad .1 definite ef-
ze~- on thle rate and the d1rection of the hydrolysis.

Abstract: investigating the reaction of dialkyl- and diaryl 1-alkoxy-
2,2,2-trichloroethyl phosphites with halogen compounds -- benzyl bromide,
acetyl chloride, acetyl bromide, benzoyl chloride, and chloral -- it was
shown that the reaction of dialkyl I-alkoxy-2,2,2-trichloroethyl phosphices
with alkyl halides takes place with a strong electron donor radical being
eliminated. The reaction of dialkyl- and diaryl 1-alkoxy-2,2,2-trichloro-
ethyl Dhosphites with acyl halides takes place with the elimination of
1-al~-.o%-v-2,2,2-tr4-cbloroethv1 radical. With chloral the phosphites yield
respective dichlorovinyl phosphates.

the transverse direction. A defect of this particular amplifier is the car-
paratively high transniszion loss with pumping. The author asserts, huwevor, tnat
methods of reducing these losses are already becoming apparent.

anchovies on the Black Sea in March 1970 using television, undex-riater photo-
graphy, sound recording, and oscillographic awdyais. Before light was
introduced the fish craitted rare high-frequency crackling sounds and P_ lo~,-
frequency per-oistent druaming that was attributed to other fish imecies. When
a submerged 1zlm-D w_aua switched on the fish congregated about it, rrAtting sounds
of higher frequency at a significantly greater rate. These result.., were con-
firmed with those of latoratory tank experiments with Lauca!opoius dolineatu-,
Heck. When lights wo-re turned on after 3 m1nutes of dax,:ness t~:q acoustic
activity of the fish increased noticeably. Those Significalit dJ1ff(.'r-jllcuL; In

Translationt A rigid rotor can be . balances by an arbitrary system of loadzt
if these loads are selected in such a manner that the sun of their static
moments and the disbalance are equal to zero. The attained balance is not
disturbed with a change of speed. For flexible rotors this condition i,- a
flexible one, but is not sufficient. The initial disturbance and the system
of balancing loads bring about various deflections of the rotor,the relation-
ships among which change with the rate of rotation. Therefore the balance
of a flexible rotor, attained at the balancin- speed, mn be intrinsically
disturbed at a different speed if the system of balancing loads has been
inaptly selected. The possibility is demonstrated of using the value of the
ratio of reactions at two speeds for selecting the type and position of the
system of balanced loadst at which the equilibriun. of a flexible rotor, attained
on the basis of the first form, will not be Intrinsically disturbed withi,- a

A synthesis of (haloalk-oxv)ethyleries was developed from the
Arbuzov rearrangement of vinyloxyalkyl glycol phosphites.
Heating 100 g (CH?)G(OH)z and 10 g ROH under 70 inl tetrahy-
drofuran in an autoclave 4 hr at 120* gave &4q,-0 H.,C:C.HO-
(CH2)60H, b13 950, d" 0.8926, n2DO 1.4460. Treating 0.228 mole
vinyl glycol ether in 0.3 mole pyridine and 200 ml Et2O with
0.228 mole phosphorochloridite of a glycol at 15-20' gave, after
removal of C5H~X.HCI, (1) (R, R', and R' given): (Clii)t, H,

AcH and dry HCI at -,5-0* gave the requisite chloro ethers,
which ivith 2.2 mole Et3N at this temp., then 5 hr at 80-90.,
gave the (lialoalkoxv)ethvlenes H.C: CHORX (R and X shown):
(CH2),, Cl; (CE,),, C1 and (CH,)3, Br and (ClIz), Cl, described
above. Triethylene glycol and Br with red P gave (BrCH2CH!-
OCH2)2 bi.5 103-5', 1.6038, 1.5010, which with pom-d. KOll in a
Cu vessel at 95-110* in partial vacuo have l4jC:CHO_
