Doklady, v. 1T0, no. 3, 1966, 5T4-577 TOPIC TAM magnetic field, lunar orbitj lunar satellite Apworor jWvAe,0oVms4r -#"09dWJ1T-#d 010PEA0 .0 ABSTRACT: The magnetic field W- ensity in the vicinity of tho moon was measured by a three-component magnetometer barried on Luna-10. The magnetometer measurement range and its threshold of sensitivity in each direation were 50 y (1 Y W 10-5 Oe) and 1 y, respectively. During the lunar orbital flight the matellite rotated around a given axis. The magnetic field components :parallel (Ti ) and perpendicular ML) to this axis were measured. The absolute and relative errors in measuring the resultant magnetic field were, estimated to be tlO y and 15 Y, respectively. During the observation period (3 April to 4 May 1966), the 'total magnetic field and Its components fluctuated in the following ranges: T = 23-40 y, T11 - I-EI-38 y, and TjL = 12-16 y. A correlation was established between varlatlone in T and TO Card 1/2 UDC: 538.7-- L 02976-67 1'11%9 AFt)UJ?U:)-f 1~ and changes in the magnetic activity index. It was not possible to establish the presence of a lunar dipole magnetic field or the Earth's magnetoopheric tail by means of these direct observation methods. The most ireliable average value of Ti. obtained was 15 Y, which exceeds the interplanetary value forthe owne index of magnetic activity. It is hypothesized that the moon is magneticOly permeable. SOURCE: Avtomaticheiskaya, evarka, no, 11, 19660 20-23 TOPIC TiGS: tungsten conductor, cathode, arc vel dingg inert,on velilLng JABSTRACT.: The artic, le is a report on experimental work being'oone at the Tbilisi !Affiliate or the VNIIESO to determine the effector the methods used ror inert gas 1,feed and rates of gaB flow on thermal processes vith tungsteb cathodes of various shapes and sizes in -the current range from 20 to 250 amps. The cathode was silver- soldered in a copper water-cooled cylinder after which the cylinder-mad cathode were both turned on a single machine for strict coaxiality. Thermal flux on the cathode was measured by determining the temperature difference of the lncomin~g and outgoing cooling yater. Theresultant data were used for determining the relivtionship between heat flux on the cathode, methods of gas feed (axial. and tangential), rate of gas flow (1-3 m3/hr), electrode diameter (2,3 and 6 am), electrode length (10 and 20 m) and current amplitude (20-250 a). It was found that the method of gas feed and rate of gas flow have practically no effect on the beat flux in the cathode. L Yeroshevskiy,, T. lot K;Y.Ghev "Notes on Corneal Transplants," An abstract of his paper pr~dentwd at the Vni International Congress of Opthalmology.. 195q, fo1lows: Thanks to the workof Academician Filatov and his disciples, cornijal transplantation has been used to combat the social problem of blindness. Soviet plithalmologints have p1s"d a leading role in this problem. In the past PRO Yeews over 440 papers on this question hare been published in the Soviet Union. To help in this vork, the Soviet Government bms established 10 scientific reaearch Institutes. One hundred eighty optbal logists have.perforwd over 7#500 oPerittions for corneal transplantation. This figure exceeds the number performed:1)y opt6alwolgists in all the other couatries of the vorldPin the last 130 years.~ V By using the corneas of the dead (preserved under refrigers: tion), as rec d by Filstov,, great progress has been made. Proper classification of blind eyes help* to decide vhIch cn6lDes id.11 respond favorably to corneal transplantation. Clincleal data sbow tbat $ood results 9-re obtained in 50 per cent to 60 per cent of blind eM which were considered unfit for cornea-L transplantation. In cases considered to be favamble for 1 of 2 cards. J YEROSEMKIY; T. I. Votes on Corneal Transplants, to (Continued) this procedure, good results reach as high as 75 per cent to 9) per cent of them. Dr. 'Puchkovskaya's new method of subtotal transplWtation makes it poesible to restore vision in ntapbylomatous and other blind eyes which forwrly were considered to be incurable. our researches haw shown that the changes which occur In trimay1mtstion are due to the loss of neural connections. The. re-establishraent, of Aoural connections in a nev organism is very difficult and complicated. The opacification of the transplanted coirnea is probably due to neurotrophic disorders. It is the trophic changes in the cornes, which in the long run detarudne the biologic results of the operation. SO.: XVII International Congress of Opthalmq~o oicatif ic Papers, _a, Abstracts (xr S(. The.gilmo,s-L identical mailmuili, productivity of the Vark)'Us cultures may 1'b4 explained by the fact that high concentrations of calla make the medium optically very dense.
