2581. A DOUBLE MANOMETRIC APPARATUS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF BUDOD
GASES (Russian text) - De rvie z G. V . and Laza revskv S. A~. Inst.

VOPR.MED.KHIMII 1958, 4/6 (464-466) Illus. 2
The apparatus consists of 2 connected Van Slyke manometric apparatuses with one
common levelling-bulb for mercury and one motor, which is rocking 2 extraction
chambers firmly united in one mobile block. This type of apparatus allows one
worker to conduct simultaneously 2 analyses, which shortens considerably the
comparatively lengthy procedure. This model is most convenient for the perform-
ance of 2 parallel assays of one and the same blood sample, or for the simultane-
ous analysis of arterial and venous blood, etc.

TITLE: Absolu'Le precision measurements of the flux density of
the 3.2 cm radiation from the Crab and Ori on nebulae
P',,IZIODICAL: Astronomicheskiy zhurnal, v. 40, no. 1, 1963,
12 - 16
T EXIT: The flux~ density due to the discrete source Tau A
and the Orion nebula was determined absolutely, using -the method
de-,cribed by one of the authors ct al (Izv. vyssh. uch.zav.,
aadiofizil--i, 4, no. 6, 1961), in which the received signal is
compared with the thermal radio emission of a perfectly black
disc placed in the Fraunhofer zone of the antenna. A parabolic
antenna, 4 in in diameter, was employed. The beamwidth at half-
power points wass 37' and the real sensitivity of the radiometer
at a time constant of 64 see was 0.2 0K. Mcasutements on the TauA
r a d i a t ioti were carried OUt at different parallactic angles. It
war, assumed that th e deggree of polarization was 70/,'~ and that the
position angle was 148 0. Since the reception was carried out with
horizontal 1)olarizatimi,the observiitioii.9 had to be reduced in

accordance with these figurcs to obtainth-total flux densityp As
a result of 110 dot erminat ions, an average figure of 5.6 x 10 ~4 w
ill -2 c ps -1 was obtained for Tau A with an estimated r.m.s. error of 5%.
.i'lic result for t*,ic cont~nl p2rt 0the Orion nebula (6'
diameter) was 4.5 x 10- Win cps with an estimated-r.m.s. error V/
o F 7,'*'. The latter result was obtained using the brightness
di.stribution reported by Yu.14'. Pariyskiy (Astron.zh. , 33, 798,
1 -~) 6 1I-A the distance of ttle Orion nebula is assumed to be
117)0 pa and the angular diameter is 201, then the average.elec-
tron density turns out to be of the order of 3000. The electi;on
density at the centre of the nebula is estimated as 8 000 cm--".
It if, noted that previous measurements of the flux density were
loss accurate (15-20".,) as compared with the results now reported.

ABSTRAM An analytical method and some experimental results are presented for
the identification of trace impurities Ln vinyl chloride. The mcnomer was pro-
duced by hydrochlorination of acetyleneqon a mercury catalyst, acetylene being
generated from calcium carbide. Rectification, vaporization of the bottam resi-
due to I vol% of the initial volume and chromatography of the concentrate wLth a
hydrogen carrier on polyethyleneglycol adipate on a brick support permitted the
clear identification of only methanol and acetaldehyde. Ethyl chloride, vlayl
bromide, 2-chloro-l-properme, cis-l-chtoro-l-propene, vinyLidene chloride, propyl
chloride, trans-1,2-dichlorethylene and 1,1-dichloroethane were addditionally

The authors review the Hungarian data and conclude that arsenobenzene treatment
is mostly contra-indicated on account of liver damage. The urobilinogentest is of
value only if the urine is diluted 20 times with waters Mild disturbances of the
colloid lability tests are no hindrance to arsenobenzene treatment. Six months
after subsidence of the icterus, careful arseno-benzene treatment can be resumed
with adequate laboratory control. In 94 cases they found - independently of the
previous treatment - a positive liver-function test. These cases were treated by
penicillin. In 73 unproved cases syphilitic origin ofIthe liver-damage was
considered. F~;Idvari - Budapest

.TITLE: Multiple point device in a system for the digital registration of parameters
SOURCE: Mekhanizatsiya i avtomatizatsiya upravleniya, no. 5, 1966, 41-43
TOPIC TAGS: computer input unit, computer research, analog digital conversion
'ABSTRACT: A breadboard model of a system for the digital recording of parameters, in-
cluding single and multiple point secondary devices, is briefly described. The multi-
point devices do not have a continuous time relationship between the sliding ele-
ment of the rheochord and the value of the parameter. The correspondence between the
voltage picked up from the rheochord and the variable parameter occurs when the car-
,riage is lowered on the chart paper of the device. A block diagram of the system is
presented and discussed. Orig. art. has: 3 figures.'

TEXT: The author announces the design .at the Warsaw Polyt~sahnlo institute
of a new general-purpose sequential electronic digital computer with number bace
designed for carrying out scientific inv .estigations. The speed of the
computer is of the order of 100 operations per second. The information Input is
carried out from a punched tape, the output by means of printers. The memory
unit is In the form of a magnetic drum with storage capacity of 128 words. The
w rd,length is 34 digits, the address part of the word is 12 digits long. A de-
scription is given of the system for representing numbers to the base
Such a number may'be written in the form.,

number %4" is represented inthe form "100"p'the number -3" - as 1111111, the
-number 'W`a- as "110011, and so on, A.e., negative numbers contain an odd, and
positive numbers an even number of digits. A block diagram is given of an adder
of numbers to the base "-2" as wellas a table defining the order of operation
of,this adder. 14ultiplication is carried out by subtracting the multiplier from
that digit of the~multlplier by which the multiplication is being carried out at
any given moment;' for this the multiplicand is shifted by one.digit. It is in-
dicated that the algorithms of other arithmetical operations, such as division
and extraction of a square root have a structure similar to the structure of the
algorithms fo r these operations over numbers with base W . However, in the
laboratory model of the computer these operations have not been realized.

TITLE: Present stage of soft ferrite production by the "Electronicall
Plant in Bucharest
PERIODICALt Telecomunicajii, no.2, 1961, 54 - 61
TEXT.- After a general introduction on soft ferrites, the article briefly
describes the production and characteristics of several soft ferrites made in
Rumania. Research on the production of soft ferrites is being conducted by
"ICET", the Uzinele "Electronicall(I'Electronicall Plant) and the ICSMTT=Insti-
tutul de cercetari itiinlifice al Ministerului Transporturilor 9i Telecomuni-
cajiilor (Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Transportation and
Telecomunications)/Xbstracter's note: ICET is the abbreviation of Institutul
de cerceta"ri electrotehnice (Electrotechnical Research Institute)7. "ICET"
in co-operation with "Electronica" developed the following cores-for high-
frequency coils used in radios: manganese -oxide and zinc oxide ferrites of
the MnO.ZnO.Fe20 3 type, "Maferit 400", for a maximum frequency of 1.5 ;-c;

and nickel oxide ferrites of the NiO.ZnO. Fe 203 typeg "Niferit 20", for a
maximum frequency of 30 Mc- Mixed ferrites of manganese oxide and nickel
oxide of the MnO.NiO.ZnO.Fe 2 03 type were developed by the ICSMTT. Iron oxide
with a minimum content of 95% Fe 2 03is used for "Maferit 400" while for "Ni-
ferit 2011 pure iron oxalate is used, the ash of which must contain a minimum
of 98% Fe20 3 after calcination. The use of 99% Fe 203 iron -oxide obtained by
precipitation and calcination of iron sulfate, is in the experimental stage.
The other raw materials used in ferrite production are pure manganese carbo-
nate, nickel carbonate, STAS 421-57 zinc oxide and pure tylose. "Maferit
400" has the formula (MnO)O. 3(ZnO) 0.16 (Fe203 )0.54, and "Niferit 20" (NiO) 0.304
(ZnO~ .032( Fe20) 0.664- Homogenization is carried out by wet ball-mill grinding
of the mixture for 16 - 24 hrs. The mixture obtained is then filtered, with

a filter press, and dried in a hot-air drying oven at a temperature of 140 0C,
until the weight remains constant at a certain number of successive
weighings. Pre-sintering is carried out at 9500C for 4 hrs, in a sintering
furnace. To obtain the fineness required for efficient sintering, the humid
pre-sintered material is ground in a ball mill for 48 hrs followed by fil-
tering in the filter press. The material is then dried in a hot-air drying
oven at 1400C. The mixture is mixed with a 5% solution of tylose and the
desired shape obtained by extrusion. Sintering is performed by heat treat-
ment lasting 3-4 bra in0 a continuous furnace, at temperatures varying be-
tween 1,090 C and 1,200 C, followed by rapid cooling in the case of "Maferit",
or slow cooling in the case of 0"Niferit" ferrites. For "Niferit 20" the
sintering temperature is 1,090 C, at which level it stays for 5 hrst after
which it is cooled slowly in the furnace. Research is carried out with the
purpose of devising one single heat treatment for both types of ferrites.
The experience of the "Electronica" Plant shows the impossibility of estab-

lishing the final composition of manganese, zinc and nickel-zinc ferrites
unless the temperature and duration of the sintering process, the shape of
the heat-treatment graph, particularly in the cooling phase, the composition
of the furnace atmosphere, the pre-sintering conditions, and the quality are
known and determined. Some of the difficulties will be eliminated by re-
placing iron oxide with iron oxalate, and by using a neutral atmosphere such
as nitrogen. The "Electronica" Plant uses "Niferit 2011 soft ferrites in the
production of coil cores for short wave reception and "Maferit 400" for
medium and long wave reception and for IF transformers. The values of Q and

Hungarian "Magnolit" and "Niferit" ferrites and with the East German

ferrites for antennas,.the laboratory development of which was carried out
by LCT and ICET. Ferrites developed by LCT have characteristics similar *to
those of-ferrites produced abroad. The comparative results o-f antennas made
of ferrite developed by LCT and of those imported from Hungary are shown in

and N ferrites for antennas. The magnetic characteristics of these together
with those of foreign products are given in table 7. In 1961 the "Electro-
nicall Plant will apply the ICET tedhnolo6ical process for production of V1\
miniature ferrites suitable for shifting and memory operations. The compo-
sition of material in these products is shown in table S. Table 9 shows
the characteristics of "Magmaferit", with rectangular hysteresis loop de-
