FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, MARYLAND 20755

Lieutenant General Vernon A. Walters, USA
Deputy Director, Central Intelligence Agency
CIA Headquarters Building, Room 7E12
Langley, Virginia
Dear General Walters:
On our way home John Marocchi and I were thankful for the
comfort of the sedan and the length of the trip which permitted a
short snooze as the requisite aftermath to the gastronomic treat
of your lunch. Whereas the briefings we received were highly
professional and stimulating, the food and drink reflected your
epicurean touch, but also made us lose interest in the rest of
the day's activities.
We both had a great time. Enjoyed your hospitality and
hope to remember some of your wonderful stories. Dumb as I was
concerning your organizational structure, I am now sufficiently
enlightened to want to know more. However, before that happens
I would hope that you will entertain the thought of a visit to the
Central Security Service. Please extend a special thank you to
those on your staff who devoted special time and effort to our
visit.
Most sincerely,
B RT . WOLFF

Lieutenant General Vernon A. Walters, USA
Deputy Director, Central Intelligence Agency
CIA Headquarters Building, Room 7E12

Dear General Walters:
Billy and I enjoyed having dinner with you last night. As a
matter of fact you were the topic of conversation during our trip
back to Fort Meade. We made valiant efforts to recall some of
your facinating stories and, of course, we marveled at your re-
nowned facility with foreign tongues. In a nut shell, with or
without the help of Bob Hope, you na de it a memorable evening.
As a follow-up to our conversation, please take note that
I am scheduled to return from my European visit on or about
3 November. If I allow the first week upon my return, i.e.,
6-11 November, to let myself back into the problem, it would
permit a visit at your convenience during the week 13-18 November.
If your calendar can accommodate that, please have your secretary
notify my office and we will have a date.
Again, we had a great evening with you and we look forward
to the next opportunity.
Respectfully,
HERBERT.
