A.BSTRACT3 Many investigations (eg Refs 5 and 6) have established
the close relation between the FeO-content cf a sinter

experiments to find whether a relation exist-; between the
FoO-content and the magrip"Ic- properties. Sinteri with a
constant CaO/SiO2 ratio of unity were mad,- from rr,asted

ABSTRACT: The viscosity alonp, the top of a fl~jidized -)cri wa% detcryri,wd by
measuring the Velocity With which a plastic sphs-,r containing 1ILad filings fell
into the ued. The sphere was suspended on a capron thread from a puikey and,
in fallin6, moved a shutte- to which the thread was fa5tened on the other side
of the pulley. The movement of the shutter changed the amount of lij,.ht illu-
minating a photoresistance that forTned a part of an electric mea%urement cir-
cuit. Calibration in poises was carried out by conducting measuremenL5 on
aqueous glycerine and molassc8 solutionn of known viscrialty. Viscrisity
measurements were carried out on a fluidized ~ed 400 mm high consisting of an
iron ore concentrate with a mean particle diameter of 0.46 mm. The particles
were held in suspension L, -12 blown in at a velocity of O.lBm/sec (Re - 4.36).
The viscosity shoved a maximum at a depth of 180 m in the layer, where the

least permeable tons of suspended material was apparently located. The
experimental set-up was equipped with electromagnets that were used to
study the effects of a magnetic field-on the structure of the fluidized
bed. Orig. art. has& 4 figures. LJPRSs 39,658
