104 adults (99 males and 5 females) and 26 children (18 girls and 8 boys) suffering
from erythema nodosurn were under observation. 57.617. of the adults and 56% of
the children showed a strongly positive tuberculin reaction. In 15 patientE a rt *
activation of the old nodes ensued after the testing. The histology demonstrated
2 types of lenions - a specific tubercle granuloma and a non-specific infiammatory
reaction. The author concludes that the erythema nodonum occurs mainly In per-
sons with active tb or in pernons who had it in the past. An indubitable connection
between erytherna nodosurn and tb has been established in 54 adu,ts and 19 child-
ren and a probable connection in 28 adults and 5 children.

(sweat, urine, milk, blood serum, and acytic,
pleural, pericarpal, and spinal fluids) and ex-
tracts from various tissues (brain, lymphatic

oao* s and their treatment IfUNG.DCMU. VENER. REV 1954. 30
(167;
The author analyses the date of 432 patientit suffering frons different tuberculous
ditesson. The ma)ortty of the patients suffering from lupus vulgarts, tuberculides
and orythems nodosum were women, while tb verrucosis and acne conglobala oc-
currod more often in men. Lupus vullgaris and tb colliqualiva mostly begin in
childhood, luberculides, arythems nodosum and tb verrucoss in the 2nd and 3rd
decade. Pulmonary tb can be observed more often with lupus vulgaris. than coin-
bined with tuberculides. Generally, in the family of the patients, about 25-30% of
pulmonary tb could be found. The blood pressure usually increased after At D,
treatment. The treatment generally did not innuenve the tuberculin reaction.

patients suffering from lupus. luberculide and orythema nodosum wore woman. but
among patients with tuberculosis verrucopa end sent conglobsts. men were conal-
ritrably. predominant. Lupus and colliqualive ib mostly set in during childhood. gm.
berculids and trythema nodosum in the 2nd and 3rd decades of life. tuberculosis
vorrucasa in the 3rd decade. Lupus and the other tuberculous diseases show a die.
tinctly chronic course. The localization to characteristic. In cases of lupue. @I-
multaneous pulmonary Ill is more frequent than in other persons. Active pulmonary
processes are rare in comes of luberculids. The past history of members of the fa-
mily showed pulmonary tb in 1/4 to 1/3 of the cases. Calamnestic examinations r*-
vealed many recurrences even after large domes of vitamin D1. The results of too-
niazid and vtI. DI in lupus. colliquative ib and tuberculosis verrucoss were approx.
imately equally good. but loontatid has the advantave of influencing also the cases
resistant to vit. D1. In tuberculids.thiornicid had a favourable innuence.but its toxi-
city should be borne In mind.
As regards therapy, a definite opinion cannot be formed on the basis of the experi-
ence of (me year. The function of the liver is most affected by thicimicid. Vit. DI in
creases the blood calcium level and the blood pressure. In many casts. the leuco.
cyte count to decreased after administrativri of thtomicid. With regard to the ery-
throcyte count, the haemoglobin content. the ESH and the body weight. vit. D2 is
about midway between the roborant effect of iscinialid and Ine toxic knfluenceof thLo-
micid With the exception of cases of sarccad. the tuberculin reaction nearly al.
ways yielded results of a highly varying degree of positivity. A small percentage
showed a tendency to Increase in the beginning and diminish toward the end. flow-
ever, the result of trip tuberculin reaction is hardly influenced by antitubercuiotice.
Patients with skin tb, especially those suffering from lupus, originate for the most
part from the poor population groups. which to new evidence of the importance of
hygienic conditions in respect of skin tb. Author's summary
