ABSTRACT: Part I is published in the same issue as part II, which reports an investi-
gation of the influence of prior low-intensity ultrasonic irradiation an the creep of
single crystals of LiF to which the load was applied in steps, and the influence on
the change in the dislocation structure. The investigations were made on single
crystals measur ing 1.5 x 2 x 5 mm having a dislocation density 6 x 104 X )5
Ic
cm- 2. The method of preparing the samples and their etching are described in part 1.
The creep tests were made under uniaxial compression and under identical conditions.
The results show that prior irradiation weakens the samples, leading to an increase
in the plastic deformation and to an increase in the creep rate. Prior ultrasonic
irradiation also contributes to the lowering of the stress required for the transi-
tion from the deformation damping stage to the stage uhare the deformation increases

rapidly under stepwiae creep conditions. The results are interpreted from the point
of view that the ultrasound lowers the potential barrier for the motion of the dis-
locations in the crystal and facilitates their motion, It Is also possible that
point defects are produced under the Influence of the ultrasound. OrIS. art. has:

ABSTRACT A brief description of the nomographic method of determin-
ing the distance (D) from the specimen slide (the object) to the
film in an inverse exposure camera with a focusing diaphragm
used in laboratories of " Zaporozhstal"' and " Dneprospets stal"'
steel plants. The nomogram presents a set of eccentrically
located circumferences having a common point of tangen( y. The
diameters of the circumferences correspond to the D from the
specimen to the slot of the diaphragm (within the range of 50-
100 mm). To determine the D from the specimen to the film,

lines with the circumference of the given diameter determines the \'alue

TEXT: An analysis Is made of decoders with three bistable elements and de-
coders with four bistable elements, equipped with diodes and resistors, corres-
ponding to memory circuits provided with electro-magnetic relays and transistors,
or eventually electron tubes. The decoders are used in telephony and automatic
systems. In the case of both types, the authors examine a simplification of the
decoders, as well as a reduction of the number of outputs and the automatic cod-
Ing of the information. The simplification of the electronic decoder causes the
reduction of the output-pulse amplitude, but considerably Improves the triggering
possibility of the circuits in such a way that the effect of the decoder an the
trigger circuit becomes more damped. The reduction of the number of outputs by
treating the multipoles as dipoles and vice versa ahould be considered as an au-

for the code requires in some cases the introduction of a delay line on the emit-
ting, and of synchronizing device& on the receiving side. Diagrams with diodes
and resistors show that the pulses will also be subjected to an amplitude modula-
tion. In two appendices the authors finally demonstrate the mathematical calcu-
lation of the pulse amplitude at tne decoder output and of the influence of the
decoder on the coder. There are 32 figures and 10 tables.
