ABSTRACT: The exchange of bromine in 5-bromo-2-nitrofuran (H) for oxygen-, sulfur-,
and nitrogen-containing groups was Investigated. When (M was a ted with 6-mercapto-

alkaline media, the corresponding ethers were obtained. Whe it was reacted with secondary
amines, the corresponding tertiary amines of the nitrofuran series were produced, and their
UV and M spectra were recorded. 2- Nitro- 5-furyl-Z I -benzimidazolyL sulfide was isolated
in two crystalline modifications. The reaction of (ED with ethylarninerfind methylamine was
followed spectrophotometrically and was found to proceed Ifi-a-Sro-rmalf fashion: the colored
Intermediate which to first formed disappears in the course of the reaction. Attempts to
isolate the products resulting from the reaction of (14 with primary arnines led to tarring of
these products. Orig. art. has: 3 figures and 2 tables.

AWrRACTj Data are given from experiments conducted to determine the possibility of
measuring the specific Ionization of charged particles In a streamer chamber. The
LY&P synchrocyclotron at OIY&l was used for passing protons with energies of 660, 200,
100 and 50 Nov through a streamer chamber measuring 50x35xl5 cm filled with pure neon
to a pressure of I atm. The results show 1.8to.4 lumitnescent center@ per cm of the
proton track with a root-mean-equars deviation of Oo29 = from the approximating
straight line. Hicrophotometric analysis of the films shows that the proposed method
may be used for measuring the Ionization of charged particles. In conclusion the

ABSTRACT: The results of an experimental investigation of the effect of temperature
on p-n-p and n-p-n Go and Si transistors are reported. The current gain vs.
collector current and Input resistance vs. collector current characteristics were
measured at 1000 cps and a collector-base voltage of -5 v. Over 500 Ge and 500 Si
commercial transistors were tested. The above characteristics were measured at
20, 50, 70, and 100G. It was found that: (1) Si transistor parameters are more
depe4dent on temperature than Ge transistor parameters; (2) For all transistors.

of 2-3 ma. (3) At higher temperatures, these maxima shift toward lower currents;
(4) The steepness of the characteristics varies only slightly with temperature;
