The attention is primarily focused on the low-noise as- pects of the design ard operation. The basic theory of noise level in the counters L briefly reviewed and ninimum measurable intensity is given. This quantity is given i! terms of the number o1 noise-inducing events such as cosmic rays and others. The mate rials used in the construction of the counters are evaluated in terms of their radio- y-active impurities. Tables are giv activity level arising from the presence of a, 0, en listing various matarials Used in counters and the number of radiation events per 100 Cn2 per hour. Chenical affinity and abundance of radioactive elements in various materials, their decay times and other particulars are discussed. In the presence of two or three-functional groups with equal electron- directing properties (OH, OCH-, NH) one of the groups, when subjected-t1i 3 the effect of NU as a stronger electron donor acquires, the properties of a weak electron acceptor; this causes the appearance of the A band characteristic of functional groups with opposite sign. Also the dipole moment increases which was 1.95 D for p-hydroxy diphenyl amine, 1-79 D for;. 4-methoxy diphenyl amine, and 3-5 D for 4,4'-dihydroxy diphenyl smine. On formation of salts, the B band disappears or becomes weaker, when the salt formation is incomplete. The catalog describes 820 storms. A total of 539 of them are atoms with a gradual commence- ment. Figure I presents the curves S116 (nb), San (ap) aryi Sa for Irkutsk.
