PURPOSE AND CONERAW: Ihis book is based on the coume "Electrical equipffent and
automation of ships" conducted at the Izningrad Eleectroteelviical Institute im.
V. I. Ullyanova. 7his textbook is intenc1ed for use in the abow-mentioned course
in schools of higtier technical education; it may also be used by engineers cb-
sig-Ling new automated marine plants and by manufacturing workers. M-ie book deals
with elements and contml system of automated ship installations. 7he theoretuical
Andamentals of automatic contriol are also considered, along with linearized Sys-
tem and pmblems or the theory of nonlinear system. FwAamentals of the statis-
tical dynamics method of systems with automatic contml are discussed.

SOURCE: Zhurnal fizicheskoy khimii, v. 40, no. 5, 1966, 1125-1128
TOPIC TAGS: titanium compound, heat of formation. nitrogen compound, calorimetry
ABSTRACT: The dependence of the heat of formation of titanium nitrides upon compo-
sition was studied by calorimetric combustion technique. Homogeneous samples of

the presence of nitrogen at INGOC. For nitride samples of a general formula

TiNxQy (Y = 0.01-0.02) suitable corrections were made in order to account for the
oxygen content. The dependence of the heat of formation upon nitrogen content (x
index in the formula) is shown In Fig. 1 where: I - Is for titanium nitrides and

TITLE: The Neutron-Deficient Isotope Ho155. Letter to the
Editor
PERIODICAL: Atomnaya energiya, 196o, voi 8, Nr 3, p 248 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: Mihelich, Ward, and others (see refj assumed the exis-
tence of a short-level isotope Ho155 as
a parent nucleus needed to explain the formation of
isotopes of Dj,155 and Th155. The authors investigated
on a scintillation Y-spectrometer the Y -spectrum of
a holmium fraction obtained as a result of deep splitting
of tantalum during exposure to 660-mev protons of the
synchrocyclotron at the Joint Institute of Nuclear
Research (Oblyedinennyy institut yadernykh issledovaniy).
They also performed multiple chromatographic separation

in 1-hr intervals showed in all three cases the presence
of only Dy155 isotope identified from its Y -spectrum
and half-life. Mass number of D1155 was fixed by means
of a mass spectrometer. The amount of pyl55
in consecutive separation vgg~ proportional to the activity
of the parent material (HO155 and varied according to
a half-life of approximately L min. The authors,
therefore, claim thIp they positively established the
existe.nce of the Ho :)5 isotope with a half-life of
46 + 3 min. The Y_ -spectrum of this isotope probably
confains the line ,- 140 kev. MIhelich and others earlier
attributed the o-%0138 key -line -..,ith a half-life of
approximately I hr to H0156y, although they noted that
the mass determination was not sufficiently substantiated.

TEXT: The article under reriew was read at the Tenth All-UhLon Confer-
once an 111clear Spectroscopy (Ifoscowp Januarr 19 - 270 1960L. The authors
analyzed the speotra, of electrons and positrons arising in tbe decay of
the 75-minute Yb isotope by means of a magnetic P-spectrozeter with a
homogeneous magnetic field. The half-width of the cs137 K-line amounted
to 0,8%,, Ilectrona were recorded by an electron counter of the type
MST-17- An analysis of the positron spectrum (Fig. 1) revealed that It
corresponded to a half-life of 75!2 min as to intensity in all its parts.
Fig. 5 shows one of the decay curves of the positron spectrum; its
cEnalysis by means of the Fermi method (Fig. 2) showed that in the range

of 1,300 29940 kov there occurred no deviations from the shape which is
characteristic of allowed p-transitiong. The energy limit of the
P-spectrum Is found at 2994020 ker. A deviation of the spectrum from the
Fermi shape was observed at energies below Iv500 ker. If thin deviation
is assumed to be related to a second component of the ?-spectrum, its
energy limit should then be at 1300100 kev. L- and X-lines of the
31-5-kev transition and K- and L-lines of the 211-kov transition were
found in the spectrum of conversion electrons. Data on conversion lines
are compiled in Table 1. The mass number of this T5-mirl isotope has not
yet been safely ascertained, but a number of authors believe it to be
167. The opinions of various authors are cited in this connection, among
them B. S. Dzhelepov and L. K& Poker, A. V. Kalyamin and A. Abdurazakov.
To conclude from the investigation results obtained by the authors of the
present paper (Table 2) it does not seem possible to ascribe the mass
numbers 167 and 165 to the 75-minute isotope- Results likewise exclude
163 and 161. The only possible numbers left are 162 and 164- Considera-
tions indicate 164 as the most probable mass number. Fig. 4 shows the
possible decay scheme. To check this assumption, the authors analyzed

the conversion electron spectrum with a view to determining the Z of
that nucleus in which the 91.5-key transition, excited in the decay of
T5-min Ybg occurs. Respective date are given in Table 3. It was thus
Proven that the T5-min activity is actually to be ascribed to the mass
number 164. There are 4 figures, 3 tables, and 12 referenceso T of which

(11959)1- Besides a confirmation of the results of [6) (see list of
English references), the authors obtained the following coincidences:
between the 710-key line and the 460-, 710v 790-key peaks; between the
790-kev line and the 185-, 46o-o 710-kov peaks; between the 1180-ker line
,and the 880-kov peak; between the 12TO-kev line and the 185- and 600-ker,
peaks, and between the 2070-key line and the 80- and 185-kev photopeaks. On
the basis of these exporiments and the energy values of transi ons given
by Gromov et &I., the authors suggegt a new level scheme for 1AEr from the
decay of 166 Tit (Fig. 6). The branching ration of transitions between the
levels with Kw2 and X-0 are calculated on the strength of Alaga's theory.
For the level scheme propoaed by the amithorso they ava in ketter agreement
with the experimental values than for the scheme given in L6]. The prexent
proposal of the level scheme for 166Er needs some more confirmation. To
get this, the authors are starting now gazza-gazza directional correlation
experiments in order to obtain definite values of spine for the 788-,
a62-, 957-, and 214O-kev levels. The authors thank S. Chojnacki and
I. A. Tutlanday for the preparation of sources, and K. Kelinowski and
