r)Ium:; an 31 worldwide basis, 5.256 of the plum-crop are used
up as fresh fruit, 4.7% are made into plum-butter, candy
and jam; 12 ,5% are processed to prunes, and 77.6%o are used
to make plum liquor. Expo7t or prunes has been decreasing
steadily due to poor quality processing of the pluns. It Is
necessary to Improve the quality of prunes, for which
purpose It Is propossd to expand trie grcroting of the variety
lPo7l-egech and provide modern drying factlities. lt Is also
Alf'.'Cessary to In,;rease the output of cawed products.

slavian prunes in Pacific Ocoan States where it
competes with those from California, attention
was given to the quality of certain varieties of
plum suitable for drying (,Vozhegachi, Ashonki,
Itallyanki and others). The Yugoslavian variot-
ies are better than American ones in the raw mat-
erial state, but the quality of the prunes is in-

ABSTRACT: The article deals with "phytocides" (plant toxine killing
bacteria and funSi) and "phytocidell-productrur trees and
shrubs to be planted ta the Gardens of new housing develo
moat areas. The riold of "phytocitles" is bein,; ctudied
by the flfos~--ovskly lesot-ekhnicheskiy inatitut (Zoscow
Institute of Forest Ea~;ineering) an! other institutes.
The toxicity of "phytocides" has the followinj; power:
it taken the "phytoclde"-containing mountain ash leaves
20-30 minutes to kill flies, whereas the "phytocidal"
properties of a bird cherry brines death to them after
4-G minutes. The bird cherry leaves also exercise a
deadly effect oa white mice, killin,; then within 20-40

Special Design Bureau for ran pumps (OK8 po besebtaneo"m nasosam).
At present the lialted number of stwidard type (5-6) submersible
electric pAWs does not satisfy oil fleld.demsnd and In order to solve
this problift the OND for rodless pumpshad prepared specifications
for a standard series of submersible electric pumps. Fig. 1 shows
the sethod by which the dimensions of submersible pmps and electric
..motors were determined for wells with casing strings of 5 3/400

6 5/80, and 8 5/80 and -fnfxa= Inside diameters of 122, 1", and 194 am.
respectively. Fbr wells with a 70 casing string, the "no pumps as for
5 3/4 and 6 5/90 casing strings were recommended, and for wells with
casing string of more than 8 5/80 any pump or the new standard series
will do. Table 1 gives~the diameters of the pumps md submersible
electric motors. The efficiency of the pumps us@ calculated with the
aid of OKB formulas derived by experiments and verified by testing
the stages of miall dimension pumps. It was established that the full
efficiency of a submersible pump varies from 40 to 60 par cent depending
on the dimension and delivery of the pump (Table 2). The ~pproximato
notion- motor capacity for wells with 50, 60, and 80 casing strings
was established as 4001000 and 190 kw.# respectively. The length of
a pump or motor was established as 7 m. The maxiv-sa head of a pump
was cAlculated from data on a duplex or triplex pump powered by one
electric motor. The possibility or coupling pumps use teaW using
the 0-70-1500 smid EX-40-1000 puns. The mLin parameters of pumps
for wells with 5s, 60, and 80 casing strings were established on the
basis of the above calculations. Some of these parameters are given
in Table 2. Determination of pump delivery and head made it possible
to present gra hically the ranges of application for oloctr '1e pumps
