PERIODICAL: Doklady AN SSSR, 1957, Vol. 114, Nr 6, pp. 1322-172~ (USSR) ABSTRACT: E. A. Asratyan (reference 1) together with his collaborators proved that compensatory adaptation&, representin~~ a complicated synthesis of varioue interactinE forces in the oroanism, are caused by the cooperation of various levels (storeys) of the central nervou~3 system. This cooperation depends on the depth cf the injury and on the fact how complicated the functional disturbances developed under these conditiono are. Insignificant injuries which are accompanied by little perceptible function.--l disturbances are rapidly compensated. This compensation may be brought about by the Card 1/4 lower levels of the central nervous system. For the The Part Played by the Large Hemispheres of the Brain of 20-11-4-6-52/54 Dogs in the Recovery of the Function,- Disturbed by a Trancversp Hemisection of the Brain Stem at the Level of' the Pr,.nB Varrilii restorati~,n of radical disturbances, however, the upper otoreys of the nervous syt3tem ilre required. The de,,,ree of the participation of the upper storeys of the nervous system in the processes of compe.,isation is the lower the lower the position of the respec-.ive species of animal in tLe series of evoluti)n is. These are thf~ principles of the new theory of evolution of the adaptation phenomena by E. A. Asratyan. The removal of the cerebra.- cortex Df doi;s which h;id been subjected to various injuries of the central nervous system is of importance in thi! determination of the part played by the individual storeys of the central nervous syste-., in the compensation of the disturbed ft.nctionc. T11-ie author reminds of the consequences of the hemisection of the brain stem (reference 2). After 2 - 3 months the disturbed functions paresis of the limbs, curvature of the body and others) were almost completely restored. After the above-mentioned hemi- section (- operation I) the cortex of th., rii~ht cerebral hemisphere was in the present work ilso removed after the restcration of the disturbed functions loperatijn II). In all Card 214 7 dogs which had survived the op,!ration the compensatory The Part Played by the Large liemisph,-reo of the Brriin of 20-114-6-~2/54 ~s in the Recovery cf the Function:-, Disturbed by E, Tran,?vmrse Dor Hemisectic-n of the Brain Stem at the Level of the Fons V,-,rDIii adaptations which had developed after operati-)n I disappeared. The animals aCain could neither otan! nor ifalk. The removal of the cortex of the right hemis;~here changed the reflective excitability of the li--,.bs of t~.e tiame side of the bodv. The threshold of the reflective excitatior', of the bending reflex of the right was reduced by 2 - 4 crii of the distance of the coils. The propioceptive sensitivity of the left side was disturbed. In t'~e course of ti--e a second restoration of the functions di.,;turbed by operation !I took p ace. lzj days after the operation the do','-s were already with great effort capable of walkin.,. After 4 - 6 weeks the activity of movement wa!3 so fur restored that the animals could walk fairly well. The place Was more uniform, the animals fell extremely 3eldom. But the disturbed functions were not completely restored. Even E--fter 7 1112 months the movements of the hind legs remained somewhat incomplete, the animals were neither caDable of' running, nor of ~umpin6; durink; rapid walkintL th,~ hind lc,rs failed them and the dogs Card 3/4 fell. ORG: Sevasto o2 Instrument Fabrication Institute (Sevastopollakiy priboro elfnyy Institut) TITLE: Investigation of the protective effect of benztrlazolelin neutral and acid media ISOURCE: Ukrainskiy khimicheskiy zhurnal, v. 31, ro. 12, 1965, 1337-13421 TOPIC TAGS: corrosion inhibitor, ferrous metal, nonferrous metal, ABSTRACT: The article gives data on the protective,.ection of aromatic compounds of the azole group as corrosion reterder-sifor ferrous and nonferrous metals in neutral medl-a-,-Tn -parET-c-u-T6-r-, of benztria.zole, its sodium salt, and buffering solutions consisting of' a mixture of benztriezole and its sodium salt. Samples tested were steel and copper plates 50 x 20 x 5 mm, cost iron plates 40 x 20 x 5 mm, and cost iron cylinders 28 mm In diameter and 5 mm high. The chemical compositions of the metals and their corrosion rates are shown in a table. The effect of varying conegntrations of benztriazole and its sodium salt is shown in several figures. It was found that, in a neutral medium in a 1% Card UDC: 620.19 .01 L 36o54-66 ACC NR.' AP6015904 solution, benztriazole has a protective effect with an Inhibition coefficient equal to 7 for gray iron, 9 for St-3 ateel, and 12-15 for Ni-resist. A 0.05% concentration of benztriazole has a protective action for copper, and a 0.1% concentraticn has a protective action for copper In contact with steel. In acid solutions, the corrosion rate Inhibition coefficient decreases from 15 to 4 with an increase in the pH. Benztriazole has a protective action with respect to copper in a 2 N solution of hydrochloric acid, and the corrosion inhibition coefficient is equal to 5.5; however, ben.,,triazole form a considerable number of phase compounds on the surface of the copper. The best inhibitors were found to be buffering solutions of benztriazole witb a PH from 7-3 to 7-5. Orig. art. has: 5 figures and 1 table.
