TITLE: Stabilization of the Temperature Regimen in Large Rectangular
Cloud Chambers

ABSTRAM In the work under review a basic circuit diagram for regulation
of the temperature regimen in a cloud chamber working in a
magnetic field is given. The authors proceed from the
following considerations In the construction of this circuit
diagram. The amplitude-phase characteristic and the amplitude-
frequency characteristic show that the chamber has strong
filter properties with respect to high-frequency oscillations
as an aperiodic element of first order with a great time
constant. Tke installation of the chamber in a thermostat
increases its filter properties. The characteristics reveal
that the thermostatis an efficient high-frequency filter.
Its use is expedient in all cases in which short-termed

temperature regimen of the chamber consists in the elimination
of external disturbances. At the same time the vertical
temperature gradient in the operational range of the chamber
must be maintained. This can be &axanteed only if the
temperature of the lower chamber wall is equal to that of the
upper one. It is shown that temperature stabilization of the
upper and lower chamber wall and the compensation for
disturbances (caused by the poles) may be attained 'by excitation
of the corr6-sponding high-frequency oscillations at the
inputs of the various high-frequeno-y rangeop provided the
value of the constant oacilla.tion.component does not change.
An excitation of oscillations at the input of the object is
warranted by a simple mechanism consisting of a condenser
(system of coils through which water flaws)-an electric
preheater and controllers with 2 positions. The controllers
act upon the preheater (according to the value of the
temperature to be regulated). It was experimentally determined
that the mean temperature remains constant. The specific
feature of the instailation is its constant load. Figure 5

ABSTRACT: The article deals with the purpose and ways-of conducting the
:practical training of student veterinarians. The purpose of
,3ractical work is to teach the students to combine theory and
practice, to assist them in learning the most important work
methods and to accustom them to independent work. Student
practical work is conducted by small groups of 3 to 4 men who
must independently conduct a clinical examination of a. sick
animal (make the diagnosis and a motivated prognosis,-and
:Lndicate the treatment), The work is controlled by the instruo-
-01org and a larger number of students participate in the ensu-
ing discussion of the results obtained. On one occasion a
istudent carrying out an experiment on the intraosseous anes-
thesia of sheep came to the conclusion that the introduction
of 10 ml (milliliter) of one- or two per cent solution of
novocain into the breast bone causes a local anesthesia

Organization of Practical Work of Student Veterinarians
Another student, treating 27 horses suffering from throm-
bophlebitis, made in aseptic cases subcutaneous injections
of a physiological solution of 50-60 ml sodium chloride
around the inflammatory seat or in case of a purulent form
of disease - a resection of the affected part of the vein.
In one case only (a bad purulent thrombophlebitis) the stu-
dent did not succeed in healing. On the question of fumigat-
ing wounds a valuable experiment proved that the baotericidity
of smoke received from burning beech-plane tree sawdust was
considerably higher than the bactericidal effect of smoke from
fir-pine sawdust. It proved that after 1 to 2 fumigations-
with beech-plane tree smoke the pus from the animal's wound
disappeared and the wound began to close. An article on this
work is contained in # 7 of the Journal I'Veterinariyall for
1954.

determined from the data of isopiestic equilibria according to H. A. C.

Storonkin, M. M. Shullts (Vestn. -Leni4gr. un;ta4.n% 11, 193, 1954)% The
solid phase was analyzed by iising Rb8b and c 13 esults: (1) The
system has a eutectic point with the composition 1.42 M CSI, 7.01 M RbI,
and 17-.962 mm Hg H20. (2) At 250C RbI and CsI-form solid solutions in
extremely narrow concentration ranges; in CaCl-type solutions in the
range 04 X M163s and in an HaCl-type solutions in the range
