used, and the x-ray reflections were registered photographically and
by ionization. It is shown that the microdeformations depend weakly
on the rate of deformation, and the size of the coherent scattering
region has a stronger dependence. A study of the anisotropy of the
investigated quantities has shown that with increasing rate of de-
formation the anisotropy coefficient of the size of the microdefor-
mations do not change, whereas the anisotropy coefficients of the
size of the regions of coherent scattering decrease. V. Rardonskiy.

PERIODICAL: Zavcdslxya Laboratoriya, !958, Vol. z4, Nr I , pp. 1
ABSTRACT: For the purpose of simplifying the above method it is
use thiourea, which results in a complex compound of yellox co'~r
with Bi3*-ions in nr; acid medium. This compound is markc-3 by --,
high degree of absorption within range of the violet spectrx,2, th,:
absorption maxirmim being located outside the visible field. Ttie
intensity of the change of color here corresponds to the Lambert-
Beer law. For the analysis the solution of 1, g tin in I ml
regia + 15 ml nitric acid and 10 ml 10% thiourea is used. Photomet-
rization is carried out on the apparatus "q3 K--l&" vrith a 'bl--e
filter. As a measuring device the spectrophotometer "CI -31" `3
used. This method mas introduced at the laboratory of the
Magnitogorsk.4y Kombinat a-nd gave satisfactory requits af ter ha-,
been employed daily. There are 2 figures and I table.

Abstract: [Author's English summary modified' Author ana-
L 3
lyzes results of a five-year follow-up of 41 cases of purul-
ent laryngitis. in its various classit*ications. Ito notes
that purulent laryngitis is less prevalent now with the use
of antibiotics and is more prevalent in men than women (3.1).
P~_irulent epiglottitis appears more in young people, while
intralaryngial laryngitis in older ones. Moderate dysproe
often accompanies Intralaryngeal laryngitis, while severe
dyspnoe -- diffuse Purulent laryngitis, and tracheotomy
should then sometimes be used. Conservative treatment usu-
ally suffices for complete cure, and incision of abcesses
may cause cicatrices, followed by diso--Lers of normal fun-
ction of the larynx. Of the 11 references, 4 are German

Studies of cases of Q fever made in the Crime& during the period 1954-

The foUmIng concluslons vere reach*& on the basis of those stulles:
"I. Epidemiological and serological research has established the
connection between Q fever in humans and agricultural ani-Is, cattle,
sheep, and goats, cattle being the most important in this respect.
"2. The gray rat found in the Crimea has been recognized as a new
reservoir of the Q fever virus.
"3. The Q fever pathogen war. isolated from the dust in ani-I shel-

thus pointing to the possibility of infection by inhalation.
