In the spring of 1947 and 1949 an infestation with the Acarina Allothrombium
fuliginosum Hermann was often observed in man. Clinical symptoms: crythema,
followed by a generalized oedema, especially at places where the clothesfit closely,
and slight feverp Similar clinical pictures could be produced by allowing
theseacarinae to bite the hand. Adult Acarinne and nymphae possess poison glands
which are absent in larvae. The affections caused by Trombicula and Trombidium
occur late in summer and in autumn.

The beneficial effect of cortisone in allergic inflammatory processes is a sufficient
reason to use the drug in injections and instillations in sympathetic ophthalmia. Two
cases are reported. In 1 an eye was enucleated for traurnatism, in the other a
cataract was extracted. In the first case, the usual treatment was followed by re-
lapse. Cortisone produced cure, which has been maintained for I yr. In the second
case, cortisone treatment was followed by relapse and cure was obtained by the
usual treatment. Relapses were produced after discontinuance of the cortisone
treatment. A lasting effect is obtained by prolonged treatment, which was weli
tolerated for 6 months, and by association of radiotherapy, autohaernotherapy,
mydriatics and thermophore to the usual drugs. Puscariu. - Bucharest

.gine designed by a team of Polish scientists of the Katedra Mechaniki Sto-
sowanej (Chair of Applied Mechanics) and the Politechnika Warszawska (War-
saw Polytechnic). The team members were: - Professor Zbigniew Paczkowski~
Doctor Zygmunf-Fonberg, Master of Engineering Stanislaw-Xb'chafiski and Mas-
ter of Shgineering Leonard Wolski. During the last six mo-n-tHF-the team
built a number of experimental plabina rocket engines. All of these engines
are of the are type with_RLELsma&eaching a temperature of 10,000 0C and the
speed of positive argon ion bein about 79000 m/sec. By using hydrogenA

for fuel the speed of ion eached 44,000 m/sec. Plasma is produced in an 1W
electric arc by special accelerators and the direction of electric discharge
coincides with the accelerator axis. The plasma-flow nozzle acts like a
cathode operating on d-o current. Electric discharge takes place inside the

cylindrical gas volume, plasma particles emitted by an anode located in
the center move toward the nozzle. Simultaneously, according to the law
of electrodynamics, positive ions and electrons not being part of plasma
particles move in a spiral. This motion is uniform in relation to the
current flow building a magnetic pole. As a result of this magnetic pole
and of simultaneous rotation of plasma particles, an electrodynamic power
is created drawing these particles toward the rotating axis and thus forc-
ing and enclosing plasma in a very thin jet. Further, the author outlines
the necessity of research on this subject and proposes that other research
centers working along the same lines should cooperate. There is 1 photo-

ti*e propillsion, meteorites; commmications, celestial navigation and co=and
guidance; propulsion, liquid and solid fuel rockeis, nuclear, photon and electro-
magnetic propulsion; geophysical research, radiation belts, solar bursts of radia-
tion, exploration of fringe areas of the solar system; current experiences in
manned flight, biological aspects of space travel, reentry; space law. The closing
passage mentions the challenge of space travel to mankind and eventual Polish con-
tribution to the engaging task. It is mentioned that the orbital altitude of
