ABSTRACTt Professor Dr. tech. A.G.AKEMM, born in 1905, finished his
studies at the Technical Highmahool of Moscow with bionors in 1929.
His dissertation on raftology me considered to be excellent.
Besides scientific researob work he lectured at several Universities.
With his direct participation the first transportable ultra-short-
wave radiostations, won developed end tested. In 1928 be carried
out observations of the ultm-short-wave field frcm airplanes
" balloons. In 1934 he was head of the departamat for the oon-
struction of a stationary apparatus for decimeter waves and since
1936 he has been a smober of the BrWe for Ilecirooomwations
within the organUation or the AmdmW of Solenoe of the U.S.S.R.
In 1940 he took the degree of doctor of toobnioal sodLenoe "
professor, wW in 1949 he was promoted to the rmA of oolonel
ar4ozeer.
He participated in the work of the All Union Scientific Soviets

inspection of a moving surface of an article such as a metal strip. The deLeCtor con-

ABSTRACTt The article describes briefly how Innovators of an air
force unit designed and built a special control-meae-
uring device for checking the proper functioning of
the autoniatic motor for mass flow rate of air 4VR
(aytonat vesovogo raekhoda), without removing it from

parts: a relief valve, three inlet valves (two for wing
motors and one for the tail motor), vacuum manometerp
mercury gage,, three inlet homes of 6 a length each,, and
a table of temperature corrections. The checking device
Is connected by a hose to the AVR of one of the wings.
Then the engine Is startedand at 9000 rpm the heating

AEUTRACT Many processes in non-ferrous metallwgv involve corrosive
media and the ~onstr,iktorskrqe byum (Design bitreau)
Tsvetmetavtomatika (KE TsMA) have since 1955 beenworking
on pneumatic contrDl methods, which are especially
s uitable for s-ich conditions. Other organisations named
by t,ie a--rthors as some o" those working in the same
field are: Institut avtomatiki i telemekhaniki AN 663R
(Institrte of Automation and 'elemechanics of the Ac.
5c.U,')SR)j, NIITeplopribor, TsLA of the "Energochermet"
Tru:jt and the "Tizpribor" Works. A wide range (Table 1)
is covered by the pnewnatic transdacers, prodticed ~y
the KB TsYA (Figures 1 and 2) in which use is made of a
corrosion-resistant 6oviet plastic. A series of corrosion-
resistant valves have also produced (Table 2).

metallurgical solitions, the KB TsYA in 1957 developed
(Figure 4) an aitomatic polarographic ccneentration-
meter, type KAP-225, with a transducer type DAPK-226:
this device has been successfully used at the "Elektrotsink"
Jorks for analysing for cadmitan in zinc electrolyte and
is based on alternating-curmnt polarography. The
KB TsMA have develcp,-d a series of radioactive methods,
particularly for level indication over a wide (type URJ')
(Figure 5) and a relatively narrow (type ',RPR) (Figure
range. A radioactive density-meter, type PR-150,
independent of the mireraloLftcal and size composition of
pulp over a wide range has been s accessfully tested at the
Zolot-ishinskaya oboratitellnaya fabrika (Zolotushinskaya
Bene-ficiation Aorks) (ranges 1.5-2.5 and 1-2 kF,/litre).
Work is proc--eding on other radioactive meters incl,iding
rvisture meter, for concentrates and similar material.8.

GAF2i-239) for chlorine which is accurate to + 3% and these
two instraments are to be ised in an intel-raUed a itomation
system being devised for the magnesium ind,Lstry. The
0 TsMA have developed an a iton-itic installation for
(Figlares 7 and E) cortrolling a single 0imp in relation to
the liquid level. Another recent activity of this organ-
isation has been the development of the type ATV-229 over-
heating protective device Vipure 9) and a twelve-point
temperatttre signalling device Vicure 10). The ATV-229
device is to be produced by the Tsyetmetpribor 4orks. In
coUaboration with the Institut gigiyeny trlida I Profzabo-
levartiy AM ~ZoR (Instit~ite of "ork Hygiene and Occiipational
Diseases of the AYIS USSR), the KB TsMA have developed a
device (Figure 11) for continxiis measurement and recording
of me rc ury _v ur concentration in air in the range
0.1 - o.6 mrO . This instrument (IKRP-hL5) (Filnure 11)
also gives an alarm signal if the concentration becomes
excessive and its ranpe is beir4-- extended in both
directiors.
