ionization source- The quadrupole-lens source reduced greatly the background lev-
:j' 61 in the mass spectrometer. It Is concluded that the use of quadrupole lenses in
..mass spectrometers increases the transmission and the resolution when the mass
spectrometers are enTloyed with all sources. Since the Ion-optical properties of
the quadrupole-lens source depend on the ion energy, the some can be used both
to mWreas the Ions produced during dissociative ionization and- to register the
