for Pulmonary cancer in 160 cases, for benign tumours and cysts of the lungs in
48 cases. for mediastinal tumours and cysts in 95 cases. 1562 patients were
operated on in connection with complicated penetrating wounds of the thorax at
various periods after the trauma (foreign bodies in the lung. bronchopleural and
e3der7ml bronchial fistulae. pulmonary abscesses and bronchiechses due to gun-
shot wounds, chronic pleural empyemas, foreign bDdien of the heart, purulent
pericarditta. etc.). The mortality after radical operations on the organs of the
thoracte cavity under local anaesthesia decreased from 12.8% (1946-1951) to 8.6%
in 1952 and 2.6% in 1957.

Abstract :In dogs with stomach and gallbladder (GB) fiotulne, wonk

the stoLach. In the reativo period of the atoimch, a

1618. INTEROCEPTIVE INFLUENCE OF THE GALLBLADDER ON THE GASTRIC
MOTOR FUNCTION (Russian text) - 0 a 19) 0 v B. F. Inst. of Physiol. of the
Belorussian Acad. of Scis. Minsk - TRUD_WT_.T1_Z1OL. BELORUSSK. AKAD.
NAUK 1956, 1 (47- 55) Illus. 4
Four dogs with gastric and gallbladder fistulas were used for experiments. Ex-
periments were carried out on an empty stomach. The gallbladder was stimulated
for 4-7 min. by distension of a balloon introduced into It, the degree of stimulation
being controlled by a mercury manometer. Results obtained show that weak stimula-
tion of the gallbladder (30-35 mm. Hg) increased the gastric contractions. Moderate
stimulation (35- 55 min. Hg) caused a similar effect. Extreme distension of the
gallbladder (65-8D mm. Hg) inhibited gastric contractions in the majority of the ex-
periments. The interoceptive influence of the gallbladder on the motor function of
the stomach depends on the strength of the gallbladder sUmulation and on the func-
tional state of the stomach. References 22. Semenova - Moscow (S)

T-EXT: The c'-Iane~e in sion of the photo-emf of Cu 20 was detected by using
the pulsed capacitor method. The advantage of this method liea in the
fact that tne photo-emf can be reGarded as resulting from a single
exc.'
'tation of the substance by single pulses in the absence of a residual
excited state. The existence of a residual excitatiofi is particularly
marked at low temperatures. At room temperature, Cu 20 has a p-type
photo-en'L which decreases continuously with dropping temperature. An
n-type photo-emf appears between -40 and -800C and increases rapidly with
decreasing temperature. At -160cC, the pulse of the n-type photo-emf is
10 to 20 times stron.-er than that of the p-type photo-emf, and 2 to
5 times stronger than the p-type pulse at rtom temperature. As the
p-type pulse casts longer, it is poaoiblc to obeerve both pulses at the

same The relation between the amplitudes of the p- and n-type
photo-emif depends on the wavelength of the exciting light. At room
temperature and in red or UV light only an n-type photo-emf exists.

RRIML: This book is intended for specialists who design, construct, and
operate radio-com3rAmicatiorP equipment aboard ships of the merchant-marine
and river fleets. It may also serve as a manual for students in tekhnikums ,
nautical schoolsi, and related schools of higher education, an well as for
ship radio operators.
COVERAGE: The authors discuss fundamental rules of the development and design of
shipboard antennas and feeders, their selection from a quantitative as well as
a qualitative point of view, and the arrangement of the antennas aboard ships
of various classes and types. Concise information is presentA.-d on the

ABSTRACT.- A method is propose,1 for determining the vertical distribution of'electron

horizontal gradients. The method.conBists in the diversity reception of radlowaves'
transmitted by satellites and geophysical rockets. It vas used In the obsurvaticn of

on 18 October-i 62 to an altitude of 500 km. The smooth, vertical, ionosphekic pro-

ABSTRACT: The roll pressure and resistance t eformation during cold rollinI of
-a
..clad and unclad VT14, VT15, and VT16 titaniu2loy strips has been investigated.
Unclad 1.8 x 250 x 500 mm strips were rolled into strip 1 mm thick at a rate of
30-90 m/min with a reduction of 3-6% in the first and 1-2% in the final passes.
All the alloys were relatively easily reduced in the first passes, but in the last
passes the edges of VT14 alloy strip began to"tear at 402 total reduction. Rolling
of this alloy was accompanied by intensive strain hardening. VT15 alloy had less
resistance to deformation than,VT14 alloy. The lowest pressures were required for
VT16 alls. The averhge pressure at 302 reduction was 230 kg/v=2 for VT14 alloy,
220 kg/mm for VT15 alloy, and 160 kg/mm2 for VT16 alloy. Alloy strips clad on
each side with VT1 commercial-grade titanium were easily reduced to 30-40% of the
