ABSTRACT: Using a liquid scintillator, the authors investigated the quenching
characteristics of a number of radioprotective agents. The scintillator consisted
of: FPO - 7 g/l, KPOP - 0.05 g/1. A change In scintillation effectiveness (BE)
served as a measure of the quenching action of the radloprotective agents. IT,,e BE
was measured by using an FTU-13 counter and an AMA analyzer; the accuracy was 5%.
The radia
,,tion source was Cs137 (661 kev). The absorption s--ctrum was measured with
an SFD-21levice and the luminescence spectrum with an ~SP-51 evice and special
recorder consisting of an FEU-38 photomultiplier, narrow b-Lndwidth amplifier, and
synchronous rectifier. By this method it was found that ALT, MP,-, and MOT had nearly
identical quenching characteristics while aerotonin bad none. By comparing the
quenching characteristics in the model with the protective q.-alities of these com-

magnetic amplifier that has high engineering and operating performance
characteristics! practically unlimited life, high reliability due to absence of
moving parts, readiness to operate at any time, and operability under condi-
tions of vibration, high humidity, and air contamination. Application of no-
contact elements is most efficient in pulse-type and code systernB, where the
right combination of contact and no-contact elements permits relatively simple

TEXT: A contactless numerical code transmitter is describ-
ed generating code impulses for systems of automatic blocking and
automatic signalling with auto.,atic stop using a circuit with seven
magnetic amplifiers. An analysis of transmitter circuit protection
in case of likely brea-kdowns is carried out and experimental test
results of a model in various environmental conditions are given.
The model proved to operate satisfactnrily in i:he temperature rarige

ABSTRACT: An approximate solution is given for the problem of the stability
of a rod subjected to compression, resting on an elastic supporting
medium. The ties linking the rod to the support are assumed to be
two-way compelling links. The means of solution which the author
recommends resembles in form the potential -energy method. The
difference is that the needed variational equations are obtained not
through an examination of the extremal properties of the potential
energy but by the methods of slope -deformations (well-known in
structural mechanics). Solutions are given for certain problems
in which that form of stability loss corresponding to the smallest
