The rhythmic excretion of uropepsin is described. which is not affected by diet
but is influenced by drugs having an action on gastric secretion (histamine, ACTH,
caffeine etc.). The usefulness of these tests is stressed in the following conditions:
mental abnormalities. post-resection syndrome. gastrointestinal haemorrhage
following the action of certain drugs. cachexia, pernicious anaemia, certain endo-
crine diseases, oesophageal stenosis. Determinations were made in 116 patients
and 18 healthy subjects using the authors' modification of West's method.

ABSTRACT: A report is given of the stratigraphic scheme of the
Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks of the Dnepr-Donets
basin, the northwestern border of the Donets basin,
and the Black Sea basin. The boundary between Trias-

Protopivskiy and the Novorayakiy series. Lower Jurassic rocks
Are-absent in~the northwestern part of the Dnepr-Donets basin,
but the Middle Jurassic is represented by continental littoral
-sediments, In the southeastern part the section is similar to
Ahat of the northwestern border of the Donets basin. Contin-
ental rocks with plant remains.-form the Lower Jurassic-see-
tion,-but the Toarcian is represented by marine rocks with
arenaceous foraminifers. The Aalenian was placed in the Mid-
dle Jurassicq and in it there occurs not only the universally
accepted upper Ludwixia murchisonae zone but also a L, con-
cava zone; the Stephano eras humpg-resianun zone, howeve=, is
=reerried to the-Yajocian, The Lower ff-M-onian is represented
by marine deposits, the Upper Bathonian and Lower Callovian
by continental rocks. Four horizons with arenaceous and cal-
careous foraminifers were identified in the shallow-water de-
'posits of the Lower and Middle Jurassic; among these episto-
minids are especially important. Tuffaceous sandstones were
ucountered in several drill holes at the base of

calloviensis zone from the unified scheme, to differentiate
a.Kepple S Soverianus zone above the Cadoceras-elatmae
zono independent Cosmocera -a-son zone
, and to distinguish an a .1
in the lower part of the Middle Callovian. The r-ArTMOC-eras
cordatumq Perisphinctes-plicatilisq and Cardioceras alternans
zones are UZ-ferentiated in the Oxfordian clays ol-the Dnepr-
Donets basin. In-tfie'Oxfordian of the northwestern border of
the Donets basin the zone of Cardioceras cordatum, C. ziteni
and the zone of Perisvhinctes morteli, E. plicatilig, an& P.
achilles are distinguished~ Sandstones nd red-brown clay~i
TY-TE-FlUove these belong-to the Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous,
Similar beds in the northwestern Donets basin are placed in -
the Zavodskiy series. Above this.occur continental,varie-
gated and red clays with layers of sand, belonging to the Low-
er Cretaceous. In localized areas Haplophragmoides nonioni-
noides Reuss, a species widely distributed in the Barr-e-mra-n,

ABSTRACT: Three new genera have been identified in the Jurassic
deposits of the Dnepr-Donets basin; they are distin-
guished principally by the number of apertures and by
the position of the supplementary aperture. Praela-
markina n. g. has one principal aperture, a sfirt-at
the ase of the apertural face of the last chamber.
Lamarkella n. g. has two apertures, with the supple-
mentary position in the middle part of the chamber.
Garantella n. g. also has two apertures, principal ani

suture as a large rhombic opening. All supplementary aper-
tures are situated on the ventral side. The genetic rela-
tions of the genera follow. The most primitive are Praela-
markina (Lower Aalenian-Lower Callovian) and Lamarki-n-a(ro-wer
Aal-e-nrain); in the latter the supplementary apertures occur at
the umbilical end of the chamber. Further supplementary aper-
tures move across to the middle chambers (Lamarkella, Lower
Aalenian, abundant in the Bajocian) and along the central su-
ture (Garantella, Upper Bajocian). In the Upper Jurassic
(Callovian-Oxfordian) numerous species appear which have the
aperture at the periphery (Epistomina). In further develop-
ment the aperture moves to the dorsal sida (Alaena, Eocene);
or two supplementary apertures are present near the peri-
pheral edge, one on the dorsal and one on the ventral side
(Mississippina, Oligocene). Jurassic epistominids of Poland
and France show the same direction of development as those in
the Ukrainian Jurassic rocks.

loam in the upper part, barren of microfossils. Above this unit
occur sandy clays of the Khartkov series, also with?ut microfossils.
On the nort western border of the Donets Basin, KW2 and the lower
part of KW2 consist of sandy marl with foraminiferal groups of the
Kiyev series. In the lower paEt they contain acarids and Clavulina
szaboi. The upper part of KW 2 consists of marly clays with
agglutinated foraminifers and a very small admixture of calcareous
forms. KW3 contains noncarbonatic clays, with agglutinated
foraminifers and radiolarians in the lower part, radiolarians and
sponge spicules in the middle part, and sponge spicules and diatom
shells in the upper part. The author describes 13 families, 31
genera, 123 species, and 4 varieties of foraminifers. Of these, one
genus (Reophacella, type R. compressa) and seven species (Reophacella
compressaP Ha op-gragmoidlgs kiewensis, Frankeina crassa, Textularia
flexibilis.. bella, T. minuta, an-T-Gaudryina globosa) are new. The

ABSTRACT: The article describes general characteristics of the Albian
foraminifers, in the Dnepr-Donets depression. Investigating
numerous samples of arenaceous-argillaceous sediments under-
lying the Senoman, foraminifers, were found only in the Middle
Dnepr area, in the Poltava, Cherkassy and Kiyev oblastla. The
Albian foraminifers, markedly differ from those in the Jurassic
and overlying Senoman sediments by their external features and
species distribution. They are small shells with compact
calcareous white walls. The Lagenidae family prevails, among
the 45 species of foraminifers, found. All of these species
are animals of open seas with normal salinity. The insuffic-
ient study of the Lower-Cretaceous foraminifera does not make
possible to determine exactly the formation of the rocks con-
taining them, but in general it correlates with the Albian
Card 1/2 sediments of the southern Emba and Mangyahlak in the east and

ABSTRACTi Many different approaches to the problem of classifying the
Kiyev stage deposits have been advocated by various investi-
gators; M.O. Mellnik f-Zef-22, N.M. Klyushnikov f-Ref i~r,
K.N. Subbotins. fRef T 7and the author. The latter distin-
guishes two differnt types of deposits in the Southern part
of the European USSRs the northern type, represented by
arenaoeous-argillaceous deposits, and the southern type, re-
presented by marl-limestone deposits. The northern type is
developed in the Dnepr-Volga area, ana the southern type in
the Crimea and Caucasus. The upper Eocene deposits can be
used for their comparison. The author proposes a classift-
cation of the Liyev stage on the basis of microfauna distri-
bution in the Dnepr-Donets de reasion, which subdivides
stage strata into 7 zoness I~ phosphorite sands with forami-
nifera and the species Clavulina szaboij II) the lower part
of the marl formation with foraminifers. but without the spe-

TITLE. On the Taxonomy of Jurassic Lagenidae (K siatematike yurn-
kikh lyagenid)

ABSTRACT: This paper gives an account of the present state of Jurass-
ic Lagenidae taxonomy. The great mutability of the shell
shape leads to instability of generic and specific features
in this family. The principal cause of this phenomenon is
assumed to be the stage of emergence and evolution of new
features in Lagenidae during the Jurassic time. The au-
thor describes the groups of one-rowed, spirally curled
forms and more complicated forms with a one-rowed divisiong
saddle-like chambers, forming in the last stage of indivi-
dual development. Among the latter there are cases when the
distinctive features of several genera appear within one
Card 112 species, which is theoretically inadmissible. The author

stresses the need for a more profound study of the Foramini-
fera following the definite theoretical principles on the
taxonomy of different specimens advanced by O.V. Fursenko,
D.M. Rauzer-Chernousova and others.

TEXT: The calculations for a float-type instrument for determining the
density of a liquid under pressure are given and its sensitivity is
indicated. Electrical and ultrasonic methods of positioning the float
are discussed. The imaximum error in density introduced by the electricE
method is 7-10- 5g/CM3. Calculations are given for an ultrasonic float-
positioning method based on the changes in amplitude of a reflected pulse
which accompany changes in the orientation of the reflector and crystal
planes in relation to each other. The ultrrsonic method vas checked
experimentally. At a frequency of 30 Mc/s the ultrasonic method provides
