IONS COORDINATING BOARD January 26, 1954 1010 AND[fi4 TO TSC O PIATIONS COORDINATING BOARD SUD3ECT; PSD D-44, Coordinated Information Program for the Far East The OC13 Working Group concerned itself primarily with problems of coordination and intensification of the information program in the Far East, In the light of its findings and particularly Mr. Streibert's recommendations following his trip through the area, the working group submits the following conclusions and recommendations, 1. In general., inter-agency coordination in information programs and activities in the Far East is adequate and is function- ing satisfactorily. 2. Available facilities are being utilized satisfactorily. In the case of recently created facilities planning is actively underway to increase utilization. 3, The expansion of USIA programs in Thailand., Burma, and the Associated States, reductions in the Philippines and revisions in Malaya correspond with the priorities established for the general area by recent NSC decisions. 5. The working Group recomends to the OCD that PSD D-44 be cancelled and that the working group be dissolved. It further recom- mends that any continuing or future problems of coordination be assigned to other working groups or directly to agencies having responsibility for a given sector of the Far East or a particular subject matter. The following subjects ,uld be assigned to other working groups or agencies as indicated: a. Technical aspects of international broadcasting - working group - TPII3 b, Operations on Formosa, operations directed to Cotiunist China and overseas Chinese - Working Group on NSC 146/2 and NSC 166/1 c. Operations in Indonesia - Working Group on NSC 171/1 d.
