1. Your assistance is requested in Woviding_unclassified
information in response to the fol I oiaing questions regarding trade
inr' ?nery between the Soviet Bloc and Latin American countries:
a. What Latin American countries are importing machinery
from the Soviet bloc? (Limit to names of countries that have
imported machinery of any kind in the last five years.)
b, What countries of the Soviet bloc are exporting
machinery to Latin America? (Again, all that is desired here
is a list of the countries that exported to Latin America
during the last five years.)
c. What machinery is involved? (IQ.di.cate the principal
categories only: agricultural, textile, construction, etc.
If possible, indicate whether the prices and quality of items
in the several general categories are lower, higher, or
approxG_n.ately equal to prices and quality of similar items from
non-Soviet bloc sources.)
d. Have trade missions visited Latin America to publicize
and sell the machinery? (Simply list the trade missions that
have visited Latin America from approa3;nately 1950 to date, the
names of mission personnel if available, and the country or,
countries in Latin America visited by each iiLission
