BOARD OF TRUSTEES
THE CAP AND GOWN CLUB
PRINCETON UNIVERSITY
March 26, 1953.
Mr. Allen W. Dulles,
Central Intelligence Agency,
Washington 25, D.C.
Dear Mr. Dulles:
Thank you for your letter of March 8, 1953,
and it was thoughtful of you to respond.
I am now going to put a question squarely up
to you which I hope you will seriously consider.
The Annual Dinner of the Cap and Gown Club
will be held at the Union Club, Park Avenue and 69th
Street, New York City, on Thursday, May 7, 1953. Our
average attendance is approximately 150 members. It
is really a very dignified and pleasant gathering.
Each year, as part of our program we have
invited some distinguished graduate member to be our
honor member and to speak to us for fifteen or twenty
minutes. Such a program delights the older graduates
and gives the undergraduates the right impression that
eating club members are really a worthy lot. In the
past few years we have had such as Senator H. Alexander
,
Smith the late Charter Trustee Henry J. Cochran 100
our literary light Hugh MeN. Kaher 'O#+, ex-Trustee
Larry Payson '16, and others.
I know you are an extremely busy man but the
thought occurred to me that perhaps you would be in New
York on that date possibly visiting your New York Office
or attending to other affairs, and could privilege us
with your presence. I can assure you that the formal
aspects of the meeting, including your talk on any sub-
ject you desire (either on your college days or your
present thoughts) would be over by 9:30 p.m. in order
to permit you to make any other plans. I certainly
hope you would feel agreeable to so honoring us, and I
would consider it a great personal favor.
Sincerely yours,
He man A Hey d~t~ Jr.
