le The Dutch granted the legal right of exploitation of the gold mines
located at Tjikotok and Bajah.in the Bantam Residency, and at Dja:ipang
in the Sukabumi'Resid ey}.to the Dutch-Jewish firm, Mijnbouw Maatschappij
"Zuid Bantam" (B.2) on a leasehold of 75 years.
2, Erdmann & Sielcken, Parapattan No. 54, ratavia Centrum act as managers
for Mijnbouw Maatschappij "Zuid Bantam" JB-2). The managing directors of
Erdmann & Sieloken are H. Fechner and H. Bauserman,(B-2), both German-.Yews
bybirth and naturalized Dutch. M. Tauw, a Duteh-Jevi, is :alsoussociated
with this firm,

34 The estimated production at Tjikotok and Bajah is 25 to 28 grame of gold
per ton of earth,,and at Djampang, less than 5 grams of gold per ton of earth.
4. B'jah was'exploited to a great extent by the Japanese in 1943-45. Aporoxi-
mately 75 kilograms of gold were extracted. The Japanese wed forced
Indonesian labor to construct a aqxr b r~ 5 .a, connecting Ba jah . with . the trunk
line to Labuan,at Saketi irn southern Bantam.
5. In this volcanic., hilly region where there are rich gold deposits the
natives are so lazy that those working these deposits are forced to use 25X1A6a
laborers from other areas.
