The It_alians_ have offered the machinery of certain of their aluminum
factories to Yugoslavia for the price of 7$0,000,000 lire. Since
I-stria with its supply of bauxite no longer belongs to Italy, the
factories were not used at full capacity. On the other hand, Yugoslavia
has pressing need for all such machinery in the new factories at
Strnisce near Ptuj.
Despite their great neec the Yugoslavs did not accept the initial
offer, expecting the price to drop because of the lack of a
market. Meanwhile the Italians sold the machinery to Argentina.
The Yugoslavs have since reportedly offered twenty percent over the
original cost. Nothing has come of this offer.
