1. The recent press announcement regarding the formation of the Ciinform at Belgrade,
has allegedly produced the following opinions among members of the Ecuadorian
Com=, Ist Party (PCE).
as This Comtinform is concerned with matters pertaining to the nine member
countries and possibly to Europe in general.
b. The Cominform activitiesuill have no immediate bearing on Ccennunist Party
activities in Latin America, but rather will give them direction and orienta-
tion in their propaganda programs against the united States.
c? The formation of such a Cominform Indicated the Soviet Union's desire for
closer collaboration among the Ccu unist parties of various countries, and
the possible formation of a similar group in Latin America.
d. An organization of this kind would aid materially in provid:`ng more intimate
contact and coordination among the Latin American Communist parties.
e. A secret meeting is anticipated, at which time all Latin American Communist
leaders XU receive instructions from the International Headquarters regarding

Although the announcement of the formation of the Cor_zinform was received with
enthusiasm in Corimanist circles,, it was stated that the only tangible effect
was the wic'ening of the breach between the Ecuadorian Socialist Party and the PCE.
