1. The Ca mission on Investigation of Anti-National Activities, whose existence
was supposod to have boon terminated, is still operating in offices in the
Ministry of Interior, according to an untested source, reporting on 12 April
I947. According to one of the members of the Cc emission, President Berreta has
promised to reestablish the former activities of this prou;p, which caneentrc,ted
on uncovering fifth column and subversive elements during the war. 11e?cnwhilo,
certain mezaber's continue to keep the files and material in order, and answer
occasional requests for information from:, the secretary of the I:Anistry.
It is hoped that when the Cc emission _ i.s reconstituted, Romeo Botia, formerly
deputy to the late Carlos Noguosa, will be named Chief of Investigations* with
an office in the Headquarters of the Capital Police. In this capacity he will
be able to coordinate the activities of the Cc omission and those of the police.
