The complex is sit- uated in a forested area of rolling terrain, ap- proximately 500 to 650 feet above sea level. It consists of a complex support facility, a rail- to-road transfer point and auxiliary support facility, a second auxiliary support facility, and 11 launch areas. The launch areas include 2 Type IIA sites (A and B), 3 Type IIB sites (C, D, and F), 3 Type IID sites (H, I, and J), and 3 Type IIIA sites (E, G, and K). The launch pads at the Type II sites have an azimuth azimuth of 20 degrees, plus or minus 5 degrees. Yurya was the first deployed ICBMcomplex identified in the USSR. Photography of revealed four launch sites and a support facility. Subsequent photography was cloud covered and of poor quality until= when a pre- viously unidentified activity at the north end of the complex was identified as a hard launch site. The complex support facility was identified in and the entire com- ? of 340 degrees, plus or minus 5 degrees, and the Type III sites are oriented on an were observed on photography of The complex is defended by four SA-2 SAM sites, located within an approximately 15-nm radius of its center, as follows: Yurya ICBM Complex SAM Site B04-2, Yurya ICBM Complex SAM Site B28-2, Yurya ICBM Complex SAM Site B23-2, Yurya ICBM Complex SAM Site B12-2, The complex support facility (59-03N 49- 19E), containing about 375 buildings and struc- tures distributed over an area of approximately 500 acres, is located just north-northeast of the town of Yurya (Figures 2 and 3). It consists of a railhead and storage area with more than 100 buildings and structures, four rail spurs, open and covered storage facilities, and at least one concrete batch plant; an administration and hous- ing area which includes about 200 buildings ranging from large administration-type struc- tures to single-unit family-type dwellings; and a housing area containing about 55 barracks- type structures. The facility is served by a branch from the Kirov-Kotlas rail line, which continues north- east to the rail-to-road transfer point and auxiliary support facility.
