Activities during FY 1965 and First Half FY 1966
Reviewed one substantive paper on an informal basis,, "Prospects for
Soviet Agriculture in 1970" prepared by CA with contributions from USDA,
reviewed by State and USDA. In most cases there has been substantial
agreement on agricultural production statistics of Communist countries,
Specialists from Staten Agriculture,, and CIA regularly discuss the effects
of weather on crop production in the Communist countries.
During the first half of FY 1966 the subcommittee reviewed, by interim
action, and commented favorably on a proposed CIA-sponsored external
research project,, "Cuban Sugar Production in 19700 "
Evaluation of the Role of the Subcommittee
In spite of the lack of activity on a formal basis,, close and frequent
interagency collaboration on an informal basis on matters of mutual interest
has proved to be highly effective.
