SUBJECT:- Publications Concerning the Economq of the Soviet Orbit
to OM/CIA has made a preliminary survey of the publications
on file in the various agencies of the Government outside of the
intelligence conorm ni ty that:
relate to the econor of the Soviet Orbit
were published since 1918
cQ were published in the language of the country to
which they relate.
2. This survey was made to determine the order of magnitude
of the books and periodicals falling in the above categories, the
location of the main collections, and whether there was any uniform
system of cataloguing.
3o The survey revealed that:
a. There are approximately 2,000 linear feet of books
and periodicals.
bo About one-half of this material is in the Library
of Congress.
c. There are also major collections in:
Bureau of Census
Department of Labor
Federal Reserve Board
Department of Coierce (Main Library)
Office of International Trade
Weather Bureau
Bureau of Fish and Wildlife
U. S. National Geological Survey
Department of Agriculture
U. S. Tariff Com dAsion
do There is no uniformity of cataloguing and no one
agency that is aware of the material held by the others,
