ffice Memorandum ? UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
TO 25X1A
SUBJECT: Unidentified Flying Objects
DATE: 31 March 1953
1. telephoned yesterday and told me that 0/CI
is no longer following reports of U. F. 0.'s. Jack has the 0/CI
file of U. F. 0. dispatches and wanted suggestions as to where
to send it.
2. 0/SI interest in U. F. 0.'s is currently centered on
(Air Branch/Applied Science Division). He is back- 25X1A
has all 0/SI files with exception of key documents, Panel Reports,
etc. which are in the Operations Staff office.
3. It would seem wise for 0/SI to keep a watch on U. F. 0.
reports in view of possibly greater activity this summer. The
following steps are suggested to assign responsibility and insure
receipt of intelligence information:
op e y (Geophys Br/P&E Division).
route all future messages pertaining to U. F. 0. s to the
Applied Science Division, Attention: for
review.
a. Designate Chief, Applied Science Division as
coordinator of reports on U. F. O.ts with the suggestion that
be named "action man". Carbon copy 25X1A
to Chief, P&E Division would request division support to
be coordinated by 25X1A
b. Request 0/CI turn files now in custody of
over to for perusal. I believe very lit e ma eria
would be worth saving except as samples of indicative or
unusual reports. The rest I recommend be destroyed. 25X1A
c. Request 0/CI Screening Panel I believe)
4. The above method is believed the simplest method for 0/SI
effectively keepin tabs on the subject. There would be little
time required on part to keep himself up to date. In
the event of a fu ure p, his continuing watch should prove
valuable in a critical analysis. From time to time he might
report orally to you or to me on the status quo but no formal
reports seem indicated.
