THE RECENTLY CONSTRUCTED SUSPECT LIQUID HY-
DROGEN TEST AREA APPEARS OPERATIONAL. TEST
ACTIVITY IS OBSERVED AT TEST STANDS 1-4 AND
AT THE HORIZONTAL TEST BUILDING IN THE OLDER
PORTION OF THE COMPLEX.
THE ZAGORSK TEST COMPLEX IS BELIEVED TO BE
A FIELD TESTING STATION UNDER THE SUBORDINA-
TION OF THE SOVIET MISSILE AND SPACE HEAD-
QUARTERS, OR AUTHORITY, WHICH IN TURN IS
LOCATED IN KALININGRAD, A SUBURB OF MOSKVA.

PLEX CONTAINS 4 VERTICAL TEST STANDS, A HORI-
ZONTAL TEST BUILDING AND A HORIZONTAL TEST
POSITION, THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE FACILITY
WAS COMPLETE WHEN FIRST SEEN IN 1961; BUT EX-
PANSION AND CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN OBSERVED
THROUGH CONTINUED COVERAGE. TEST STAND NO 1
IS THE LARGEST TEST STAND IN THE USSR AND THE
ONLY STAND CAPABLE OF FULL DURATION TESTING OF
THE TOTAL CLUSTER PROPULSION PACKAGE FOR THE
TYURATAM AREA J BOOSTER STAGE.
THE FIRST EVIDENCE OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
SUSPECT LIQUID KHDROGEN TEST AREA WAS OBSERVED
IN JUN 64 AND THIS CONSTRUCTION HAS CONTINUED
TO DATE. GOOD QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHY OF MAY 66
ALLOWED THE FIRST IDENTIFICATION OF THE SUSPECT
LIQUID HYDROGEN PRODUCTION PLANT WHICH SERVES
THIS TEST AREA.

9. MISSION READOUT: IN THE OLDER PART OF THE FACILITY, SOME SCARRING FROM
TEST ACTIVITY IS APPARENT AT VERTICAL TEST STANDS 1-4 AND THE HORIZONTAL
TEST BUILDING. TEST STAND NO 2 IS VERY SIMILAR TO TEST STAND NO 3 AT THE
FEI-CITING MISSILE DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION CENTER, CHANG-HSIN-TIEN, CHINA.
THE RECENTLY CONSTRUCTED SUSPECT LIQUID HYDROGEN TEST AREA APPEARS OPERATIONAL,
ALTHOUGH SOME SCATTERED CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES. THIS AREA CONTAINS TWO TEST
BUILDINGS, THE EASTERNMOST IS A MULTIPLE POSITION TEST BUILDING CONTAINING
AT LEAST 2 HORIZONTAL TEST CELLS WHICH FRONT ON A WIDE PAD, A CYLINDRICAL
OBJECT =LONG OVERALL ANI I IN DIAMETER RESEMBLING A DIFFUSER IS 25
POSITIONED IN FRONT OF ONE OF THE TEST CELLS AND AN OBJECT APPROXIMATELY
25X5 FT IS IN FRONT OF ANOTHER CELL. THE SECOND TEST BUILDING CONTAINS A
SINGLE TEST POSITION THAT HAS A TROUGH-SHAPED DEFLECTOR SITUATED AT ONE END
OF THE BUILDING. NO EVIDENCE OF TEST ACTIVITY IS APPARENT AT THESE TEST

BUILDINGS. NUMEROUS ROOF VENTS ARE VISIBLE ON THE SUSPECT LIQUID HYDROGEN
PRODUCTION BUILDING. THE NEARBY SUBSTATION IS COMPLETE.
CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES IN THE LARGE ASSOCIATED HOUSING AREA. NUMBEROUS
VEHICLES AND RAIL CARS ARE VISIBLE THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY.
