KOSTROMA, USSR
THE KOSTROMA ICBM COMPLEX IS THE NINTH ICBM COMPLEX
AT WHICH TYPE IIID SITES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED.
KOSTROMA IS ONE OF 8 TYPE IIID COMPLEXES AT WHICH
EARLIER MODES OF ICBM DEPLOYMENT WERE PREVIOUSLY
IDENTIFIED. THE OTHER 7 ARE THE DROVYANAYA, GLADKAYA,
KOZELSK, OLOVYANNAYA, PERM, SVOBODNYY, AND YEDROVO
ICBM COMPLEXES. ALL OF THESE ARE ASSOCIATED WITH
THE SS-7 ICBM WITH THE EXCEPTION OF KOZELSK WHICH
IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SS-8, THE TATISHCHEVO ICBM
COMPLEX IS THE ONLY IDENTIFIED COMPLEX WHICH CONTAINS
ONLY TYPE IIID ICBM SITES.
AT KOSTROMA, THE PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED OPERATIONAL
LAUNCH SITES INCLUDE 4 TYPE IIB (SOFT) SITES, 2
TYPE IID (SOFT) SITES, AND ONE TYPE IIIA (HARD) SITE

SITE 10 IS IN A MID-STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION, AND POSSIBLE SITE 11 IS IN AN
EARLY STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION. THESE SITES ARE THE FIRST CONFIRMED INDICATION
OF SINGLE-SILO DEPLOYMENT AT THIS COMPLEX.
