RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT: THE B-52 WAS DESIGNED BY 3. PRODUCTION: TION PLANTS, TOTAL OF 74 B-52's OF ALL MODELS PRODUCED. M-4 (BISON) BOMBER USSR THE M-4 DEVELOPED TO FILL A NEED FOR A LONG RANGE HEAVY JET BOMBER. FURTHER MODIFICATIONS HAVE ENABLED A RECONNAISSANCE ROLE. THE M-4, BISON WAS DESIGNED BY TAE MYASISHCHEV SPECIAL DESIGN BUREAU (OKB) WHICH WAS LOCATED AT THE MOS- COW/FILI AIRFRAME PLANT NO. 23. MOSCOW/FILI AIRFRAME PLANT NO. 23 WAS THE SOLE PRODUCER OF BISON (M-4) AIRCRAFT. PROPULSION: EIGHT PRATT AND WHITNEY JT 3D (MILI- FOUR RD-3M TURBOJET ENGINES DEVE- TARY DESIGNATION: TF33) TURBOFAN LOPED BY THE SPECIAL DESIGN BUREAU ENGINES DEVELOPED FROM THE J57 TUR- OF MIKULIN-TUMANSKIY-ZUBETS AT BOJET ENGINE. THE THRUST OF THIS EN- EKPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ENGINE PLANT GINE IS RATED AT 21,000 POUNDS STATIC NO. 300 IN MOSCOW. THE RD-3M IS THRUST. THE MAIN PRATT AND WHITNEY PRODUCTION PLANT IS LOCATED IN ENGINE WHICH WAS QUALIFIED BY EARLY 1953, BUT THIS WAS LATER REPLACED BY THE RD-3M WHICH QUALIFIED IN 1955, THE ESTIMATED THRUST IS 19,800 LBS STATIC THRUST.
