Two publications of the Geography Division had selected distri- bution beyond Government circles. Both were atlases that made available, mainly to scholars, unclassified information that was not otherwise generally available. They are described in the attached reviews that appeared in the July 1961 publication of the Association of College and Research Libraries (attachments 1 and 2). 2. The China: Provisional Atlas of Communist Administrative Units 25X1X1 was distributed, to 44 universities and 11 societies (attach- ment 3). In addition, 50 copies were offered for public sale and sold through the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Technical Services. 25X1X7 3. The Atlas of Soviet Administrative Maps was distributed to 45 universities, The American Geographical Society, New York Public Library, 25X1A The Christian Science Monitor, The New York Times, Time, Inc., Rand McNally, Inc., and Denoyer-Geppert 25X1C Copies of this atlas were not sold through the Department of Commerce outlet. The atlas was also available to scholars at the National Academy of Sciences and the Library of Congress. 4. There are no plans at present to revise these atlases or to issue other publications that might be made available to non-governmental insti- tutions. 25X1A9a Attachments: As stated above.
