MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence
VIA Deputy Director (Plans)
SUBJECT Interview on 5 February 1959 Between DCI and
Dr. F. Ph Kercheville
1. Attached for your signature is a proposed letter to
Dr. F. M. Kercheville returning to him five of his published
articles and miscellaneous correspondence vouching for the
character of Dr. Kerdheville.
2. The above-mentioned published articles have been
reviewed by members of the Western Hemisphere Division and
their comments may be of interest:
Inter-American Friendship and Cooperation
A sound discussion of the responsibilities of
teachers of Spaniel and Portuguese in the United
States with respect to using similarities between
the U.S. and Latin cultures to promote better under-
standing.
Americanity
A discourse of little value; suggests the use of
the term Americanity in describing things of this
Hemisphere.
Uniting the Americas
An impressive plea for the mutual expansion of
cultural relations between the Americas; laments U.S.
attitude which gives disproportionate attention to
Europe; noteworthy in that it was written in 1937.
Changing Spain
A dispassionate appraisal of the Spanish-Civil War
which expresses the hope that a liberal and democratic
government will emerge; does not have much hope that
this will be the outcome.
