The annual conference of the 'World Affairs Council of Northern
California will be held May i - 3, 19S9 at Asilorraar on the
nterey Peninsula, The theme this year will be "The Challenge
of the Rising Nations--America's Response. "
The conference is an annual highlight of the program of the
World Affairs Council. Attendance is usually in the neighbor-
hood of tOO?s{uly leaders from business, education, and
corurnunity life in this area, -'sat conferences have attracted
internationally known speakers, and have achieved major press
attention,
On behalf of the Conference Committee, of which I am chairman,
and of the Board of Directors of the Council, I am pleased to
invite you to be the keynote speaker at this meeting. Your partia-
cipatieon would, of course, add greatly to its significance. I
believe, that you, in turn, would find it stimulating to coma in
contact with this group of informed and concerned citizens. If
you are able to accept, we hope that you will take advantage of
this occasion to make a major address outlining your views on
the foreign policy of the United States, Incidentally. Mr. Maul
Hoffman has accepted our Invitation to make the closing address,
knows of this invitation to you an has expressed the desire
to coordinate his remarks with your own message.
