This letter reports my observations during a trip
made on May 21, 1970 at your sponsor's request to inspect
progress on the fabrication of the system at T/0.
Presently the main consoles are together and most of
the electronics have been installed but the optical systems
in the scanner and in the printer have yet to be installed
aand tested. The layout of the electronics and the technology
used for the wiring are very up-to-date. The contractor is
using the latest techniques such as wire wrap connections,
and IC networks mounted on plug-in etched.circuit boards.

.From a visual inspection of the equipment I would say
have every reason to expect a thoroughly professional pro-
duct. However, it is still too early to predict how well the
equipment will operate. This depends on the soundness of the
mechanical and electronic design and can only be properly
tested experimentally. I have no reason at this time to
anticipate any special difficulty.
I did notice one omission which I believe was included
in.the original design. There is no display which indicates
the current x-y coordinates of the cursor to the operator to
assist him in pinpointing a preassigned location on the
screen. It is felt that this omission will cause some diffi-
culty and possibly prevent the operator from conducting some
important investigations. It is recommended that such a
display be added if at all possible without jeopardizing the
integrity of the equipment.

During the visit I met with the sponsor's representatives
who asked me to assist them in deciding on the final room
layout. This was accomplished today and layout sketches have
been forwarded to the sponsor.
