Two hundred and thirty five German officers had arrived in Syria
as of the end of October 194II Thirty five of these officers were
experts in civilian work, such as the manufacturing of textiless
`ac tory man.ageraent, etc .0 and were sent to the factories in Damascus.
The rest of these Germans have been attached to the S rian Army,
-=- .d each of theca was given an tfficerrs rank by Syrian Army Headquarters.
About one -half of these officers case from prison camps in Egypt..
They were sent. to Syria by the Arab League after the League had investigated
sfnem:. The remainder of the Germans ware recruited by Syrians in Rome, Italy9

Some of these Germans carried identity cards which had been signed by
Fa=i. Qawugji when he was in Germanys These men were all investigated
by Lieutenant Rada Istaubuli, Assistant to the Cormanding officer of the
0.2 section of the Syrian Aiir0 Istambuli had at one time served with the
Gestapo in Germany,,, source states.
